? about post partum vaginal care

were you told to use any certain kind of soap for washing down there or not use soap for any reason?  When I wash down there it stings.  I'm not rubbing vigorously by any means but soap down there stings.  It didn't when I showered in the hospital but has just started doing so over the last few days.  Anyone know if this is normal?  Should I be using some kind of special soap?

  • I didn't get any instructions to use a special soap. I experienced the same stinging that you did and not just while showering. I am seven weeks out and completely healed! I think it's normal so don't worry!

  • After the third or fourth day home i would use summer's eve feminine wash and it didn't sting ( it still burned a little when i'd pee, but that went away soon). I liked this soap for its mildness and it being fragrance free. I think i got it at target in the tampon/pad section. Gl!

  • I had a gynecologist who was very adamant about never using soap on the lady bits, because it strips away all the protective oils on your skin and can upset the natural balance.

  • I didn't use soap at all until recently. I have a bad tear, though. I wasn't going to put my hands anywhere near it. I just made sure I rinsed it really well with water after going to the bathroom and in the shower I would take the shower head down and run water right over the area.
  • I was told no soap at all till my 6 week check -up and was given a squirt bottle to spray myself with everytime I went to the washroom and wa told that is all you need to do.  I had several tears as well.
