Today I had my 36 week appt. with all of the usual 36 week stuff....GBS test, check to see if I was dialated......this is where the bummer part comes in. MY OB says "You're not dialated, but that doesn't feel like his head either, why don't you meet me in the Ultrasound room." Yep, LO is breech. I am really down about this. I have 5 children......all of my previous pregnancies were uneventful for the most part as were my deliveries. This one has been going great until now. He was head down at my last US which was at 28 weeks. I know exactly when he flipped. I felt it and I have been telling SO that I feel him move differently than I did with the others. I am NOT excited about a C-Sec, but it seems like the best, safest choice for LO.
Re: 36 week appt. = bummer
There's still time for him to flip again!! And talk to your doctor about an external version!! Don't give up hope yet!
(try www.spinningbabies.com - I haven't tried it but I've heard good results!)
My youngest sister was breech when my mom went into labor - they did an external version and she was born head first and vaginally!! My mom was 42, almost 43.
We had a gal at our church that played music that the baby liked down low and her baby turned. She tried this on a doctor's advice.
My sister had a doctor turn the baby from the outside then induce her within an hour.
This is only my two cents--so take from it what you will. BOTH of my daughters were breech at 36 weeks. I have experienced the external deal where they try to flip them back--yuck! So painful (again, this is my experience....but I would rather have a c-section than go through that again!!)!! Turns out....she was still breech at 37 weeks when my water broke and I did have to do a C-Sect. BUT my youngest was breech until 37.5 weeks...then one night did a crazy flip right before my water broke and I had her the next day. Babies are amazing acrobats in there!!
Looking back...it didn't matter to me that I had the surgery vs. vaginal birth. I wanted to be sure my baby was healthy and I know my oldest wouldn't have faired well if she weren't delivered C-Section. I admit it...I'm not against C-Sections at all. I plan on another with baby #3 this Oct. We are all different in how we see our birth choices...and ultimately that we want our babies safe and healthy.
I do hope your sweet LO gets his acrobat legs going and flips it around! And truly, the best to you and your birth plan. Positive vibes for a head-down and healthy baby!!!
get thee to an acupunturist STAT!
Am I any less of a woman because my daughter was a footling breech and she was born with the most perfect head and no blotchyness? Nope.
She has totally exciting stories to tell about her birth. She likes to delve into percentages. Two failed birth control methods, breech, turned, flipped back, footling breeched and then c-section...on top of the short cord and 2 docs arguing about delivery method (glad I listened to the CPT instead of the MAJ) and BTW...if I had gone into vag delivery, death would have been imminent due to other issues that cropped up and we never saw.
So yeah, my almost grown pumpkin who I am grateful to have and to be alive to see was a C-sect. My mini-pumpkin will be one as well. CPP and other interesting risks have already presented. Yay for another perfectly round head and non-blotchy baby!
If you need to have a C-sect for the health and well being of you and your baby, schedule it. Better than emergency since most of the time they don't allow hubby or s/o in for E-sections. Just remember, expelling a baby through the vagina does NOT make you a woman. That is all about chromosomes.
Thank you so much ladies. It is nice to have a place to bring up these issues.
July 5th is our big day!
