Any Walnut Creek Residents??

Hi Ladies,

We currently live in Alameda but are planning to buy a house in the next year and so we're looking at a couple of different areas - Alameda, Albany and Walnut Creek. Recently, we've really been liking WC and according to some of our research, the area has really great public schools (one of our top priorities). Wondering if any of you live/lived there and what your thoughts are. What school district should we try to buy a home in, where to stay away from? What areas you like best? Are there great parks? (All I know of is Civic park?) Do you love living in WC? Why? or Why not?

 TIA!

  • We lived in Walnut Creek 2006 - 2008.  I don't have any info about the schools, but loved everything about downtown (shopping, restaurants, etc), being able to walk everywhere, proximity to BART (we both commuted to SF).  Our fave park was Walden Park, which was right on the main walking trail.  I miss it!  Had we been able to afford to purchase at that time, we would probably still be there.  Instead, I am in NJ.

  • My niece and nephews go to school in WC. They have lived in two different areas and none of the schools were impressive. They are more hype than anything. A lot of rich rude spoiled kids at the high schools (this is according to my nephew and also my personal observations). From what I have seen first hand from them, the teachers and admin. are not always in it for the students...more for status and job advancement. I would rather take a lower rated school that is student focused.

  • I grew up in WC.  I lived there from birth - 14 yrs old.  I LOVED it.  Now, things have defintely changed since growing up there (there wasn't a Tiffany's), since I have been gone for 15 yrs, but I still love going there.  When I went to school there, the schools I attended were highly ranked and I don't have anything negative to say about the schools or my experience.  I moved back to the area while getting my masters and still enjoyed all it has to offer.  If we didn't have good jobs and a home here, we would seriously consider moving there.

  • we just moved to wc so im not much help. when we were looking for houses i often referenced the school district website with the house address to find out what school it was than looked at greatschools.net to find out the score/info.

i really like it so far!
