So, DH had the vasectomy this past Thursday.

Poor guy: They made the first incision without him being fully numb; They couldn't find the second vas, but made the incision anyway and THEN dug around to find it (mind you, only the outside skin is numb- there's no way to numb the inside) and removed something they 'thought' was the vas, but after removing it declared out loud, "I am SURE that's not the other vas." And then after he'd walked to the pharmacy, sat and waited for an hour for his Rx, was informed it hadn't been entered in the system yet and when they called Urology no on picked up. He was asked to walk up 2 flights of stairs back up to Urology, only to find the office locked up and dark. So he came home with NO pain meds!!
He's doing better now, he's just barely any sore if he's been up for over an hour but he's fine for the most part. And whoever said that the big V doesn't hurt, LIED- there's a nerve that goes from the vas up to the stomach, which is why when boys are kicked in the nuts their stomachs hurt. While the vas's are being cut, it feels like a kick in the nuts AND the stomach over and over and over again.
Just in case your hubby is planning on getting a vasectomy, let him know for real what he's in for. The first day and night are the worst though. The pain isn't so bad the first night- they have to shave their bulls before surgery, and that night is when the hair starts to grow out and it gets SO. ITCHY. And if you itch... you're in a world o'hurtin all over again.
But, here is is 3 days later almost back to 100% again, so once the surgery and first night is over, it's all downhill and it's not that bad anymore.

Thanks for this. I want DH to get snipped when we're old enough to know for sure that we don't want anymore children (we think we're done now but at 23/24, who knows what we really want!), but I want him to do it with an educated knowledge of the procedure.
So sorry that your DH had a bad experience! I'm glad he's feeling better.
15 min. There's an hour of recovery time, where they sit you in a bed to make sure you're not swelling or turning red or excessive bleeding or anything. After that, it's tender walking for 2 days and then you're fine.

20 times or 12 weeks. But since they didn't get the 2nd vas (it may not be there, but then again it may have been hidden) when he does the the semen test, if he still has semen they'll have to take him in for an aggressive vasectomy. Even though the name is unsettling, he'd actually be knocked out for it.
Oh, and if he doesn't have a 2nd vas, he needs to be checked to see if he has a 2nd kidney because 1 out of 6 men who don't develop the 2nd vas also don't have that coordinating kidney because in the womb, they develop together. So... yeah. And if he does only have one vas, then him having had 3 kids will kind of be like a medical miracle because he will have only had half as much sperm to chance my body!
Wow, I am sorry he had it so rough! I don't think that this situation is the norm though. I have had several friends that have had it done and they all say that they were numb and didn't feel a thing. I have also talked to a few of the wives because really, what guy is going to brag that he had that done and complain about it and their experience was not like his at all.
I hope he is feeling better now but I don't think it is safe to say it is like that for EVERYONE that has that procedure.
I had a tubal done and mine was so complicated and I ended up with 3 incisions.... depends on the person, situation, and pain tolerance.

No, it totally isn't a normal experience. If you see a civilian dr. anot a military dr., I'm sure you would be completely numbed. It figures, a procedure that was *supposed* to be super simple turns into a huge disaster. That is just how he rolls- nothing is simple when he's involved.
