36 weeks & 2days...already dilated??

I had my 36 week appointment on Friday and because I had been having some cramping the doc decided to check me. He was surprised as I was to find I am 2cm dilated and 50 % effaced! 

I haven't had any consistent cramping however have still been experiencing some inconsistent ones since Friday. I've also started bleeding a little, not bright red so I figured no big deal. I'll probably call him tomorrow just to let him know about the bleeding part.

I'm not sure if this is early labor or what but I'd like it to either stop or go but enough of this in between stuff. Has anyone else had similar experiences? If so, how long after did you deliver?

    I was 2cm and about 50% at 34 weeks, and ended up being induced at 40 weeks.

    It doesn't necessarily mean you will deliver early.  I was 2-3 cm dilated at my 36 wk appt. (can't remember if there was effacement or not) and I gave birth at 38.5 wks, but I also know women in the same situation who went post term.

    My sister was almost (but not quite) 4cm from 36 weeks till she delivered at 41weeks. I remember it driving my mom mad. But this is your 2nd child (if I remember corectly) so you likely won't go that long.

    I was dialated to almost 2 and about 50% effaced at 36 weeks. I think it can be pretty normal.

    I was dilated with DS at 34 weeks, and had him at 38, after being induced.

    I was 2-3cm for about 3+ weeks with DS with random cramping. It was fine until I got to about 37 weeks when I started having contractions fairly regularly (just not regularly enough). I did notice after my Dr checked me I had some spotting, but turns out while my Dr was in there she swept my membranes which is what caused the spotting (would have been nice if she had said something). I ended up delivering at 38 weeks (but not sure if it was just because it was time or because of the adrenaline rush from being in a car accident that morning that finally made him want out).

    Definitely call your Dr tomorrow. Better to have him check and make sure everything is still ok (especially with the bleeding). GL!

    Seems to be somewhat normal.  I was 1cm and 50% as of 36 wks and 2 cm and 50% as of 37 weeks and delivered one day past my due date.

    With #1 I had pre-term labor issues so we won't count that - but I was over 50% effaced and 1-2cm at 18 weeks with her and stayed that way until my water broke at 38 weeks (I was on bedrest between then). With #2, I had no cervix or PT labor issues and was 3 cm dilated and 75% effaced at 36 weeks. At 37 weeks, 4cm and almost 100% effaced. I delivered a little before 41 weeks..... :) You never, ever know!

    I was 2cm, 50% effaced the first time I was checked (I think it was 37 weeks?), and I had Atticus at 40 weeks, 3 days.

    Is this your first baby? If not then it could still be weeks before you deliver. 2nd + pregnancies tend to result in earlier dilation and effacement but you could stay that way for weeks. I was 3-4cm and at least 50% effaced (I think it was more) for 3 weeks prior to delivery.

    This is my second but it's been over twelve years for my first so it's all new to me again

    Thanks for all of the info ladies, you all are amazing! I feel so much better knowing it is more common than not :)

    I began dialating at about the same time.  I was 3 and 30% for a LONG time.  I too had contractions, but nothing like active labor.  It felt like I was balancing on his noggin while sitting.  I had 10 days until my official EDD when active labor was jump-started by a minor solo auto-accident.  He was born less than 12 hrs later.

    I think pretty normal. I was 2cm dilated with DS at 36 weeks and about 50% effaced. I was also 2cm dilated with DD at about 37 weeks. I had DS at 39 weeks and DD at 40 weeks and 3 days.
