HELP!! Could this really be happening to me??

ok so I just had my baby boy on 5.11.2011. I had a c-section and came home from the hospital with very light spotting which stopped in a couple of days. I have been having intercourse with my husband and using a condom for prevention, because im waiting for my period to start so I can begin my birthcontrol pills. It has been 5 wks and 2 days since he was born and I have not started my period...nothing. No cramping or anything. Im starting to get concerned since at my 4 wk check up my doc said "oh you will start any day now" and that was like a wk and a half ago. What do you guys think?? Could I be pregnant??? Tongue Tied

  • There's always a chance you could be pregnant, but I wouldn't panic. Most women take a few months to get back to their regular cycle. I nursed my LO and didn't have a period for 4 months pp. GL!

  • Thanks :)  im trying not to panic but even the thought of being pregnant again sends me almost into tears lol. I had a horrible pregnancy with my lil guy and ended up with a 14 day hospital stay for preeclampsia before they sectioned me. Im formula feeding so I was thinking I should get it soon. So when do you think I should take a test?? or if i should at all? Thanks for the advice!!

  • It never hurts to test, so you could certainly do that now, but I'm sure your body is just trying to get everything back to normal.
  • It could be months before you get your period.  I would test anyway just to clear your mind.  GL
  • I just had my 2nd c/s and was told "nothing in the vagina for minimum 6 weeks"..(no sex) with DD #1 I was not breast feeding and did not got my period until 12 weeks after delivery. If you are breast feeding you may not get your period until you stop breast feeding. If you are worried take a test, but most likely your body is just working itself out.

  • Ditto PP's. I only breastfed ("part time") for 8 weeks, and still didn't get my first pp period until 16 weeks. I think that was on the later end of things, but most people don't get theirs for weeks. However, I would definitely be using condoms in the meantime.

  • Although you might not get your AF for awhile, you can still get pg.  (My friend's brother was born 10 mo after she was due to her mom thinking she couldn't get pg yet, but she also thought BFing was birth control).  Since you're using condoms, more than likely your cycle is just getting back to normal.  I wouldn't worry to much about it right now.  Maybe test just to set your mind at easy but more than likely it's just your hormones are still all over the place (it takes awhile for women's hormones to adjust after birth).  Are you BFing?  That can cause your AF longer to come back.  With both my girls, I BF for 12.5 mo. and it took 9 mo before my AF started again.

  • I just got my 1st pp period on Memorial Day. E is 14 months old. I breastfed until about 10 1/2 months and was on the mini-pill from 6 weeks pp until right around E's 1st birthday when I decided to stop to see if I would get a period (I have issues with anovulatory cycles). So, I'd take a test just for peace of mind, but wouldn't panic.

  • I would test to be on the safe side, but with my DD, I did not get my period until she was 6 months and with my DS, he was over 7 months. Good luck!
