Seriously decreased movement

So Im 37w1d today & for the past 2 weeks I really feel like LO isnt moving anywhere near as much as she was. I realize this is most likely just me being paranoid; I still feel movement, and she's got a strong clear heartbeat on doppler...but she's been SO active up til now & it makes me nervous that I cant always remember the last time I felt her move. Is this normal? As she moves more into position for birth will she move less & less? TIA all.

Re: Seriously decreased movement

  • I'm a lurker.  It's completely normal.  They have less room to move the bigger they get.

Yup, baby is just running out of room.

That, and the movements that you feel are different. They're less like jabs and kicks and more like slow pushes and slides.

  • I felt like you last week as well. Everything's fine though--just getting a little cramped. I drank juice and laid on my side about 3 times and counted "rolls" instead of kicks as I didn't really feel a jab. And when LO got hiccups I was elated! I also think LO was having a slow week--growth spurt and a little sleepy mayhaps?

And THEN LO kicked me...HARD. lol yeah...everything's fine haha

  • I've felt like u for about two weeks now. I had to read comments to comfort myself.?

  • you'll feel more of the stretching movement then the full on kicking and punching. It just means baby is getting bigger and running out of room to get momentum

  • I've also read that this is the case but your "kick" counts should still be ~10 movements over 2 hrs.  My baby is no longer kicking really, it's all stretching and rolling sensations now.  MH and I usu wait for baby to move before I get out of bed in the morning and the last few days we've both noticed we have to wait a lot longer to feel baby move.  I know baby is in right position for delivery so now it is just waiting.

  • also babies are like us they have up days and down days. if you are more active you feel them less but doesnt mean they aren't moving around in there you just dont notice it like you would if you were lying down.
  • Have you talked to your Dr? They told me to call if I felt that movement was decreased or different in anyway.

This.  I would call your DR to be on the safe side.  I was always told to call ASAP if I didn't feel movement or if the movement made a serious change.

  • I've been told that it isn't normal as so many people say it is. Different movements are normal, so they may not be as hard, but the frequency of movement shouldn't decrease significantly. You should still be able to feel 10 movements in a 1-2 hour period.

This. Movements may change, but the frequency should not.

  • Please, ladies, trust your intuition!  I know it's VERY rare (1:5,000) but my LO slowed way down at 35w and I had told myself it was normal, textbook; but it turns out he was hemorrhaging blood into mine and was hours from being a stillborn.  Sad

ALWAYS do your kick counts and speak up if something doesn't feel right!
