Today he got his NAM (nasal alveolar molding) put in. His lip is all taped up and has this big retainer like thing in his mouth. He has to wear this for the next 12 to 16 weeks and its to help promote the palate to move and the gap in the palate grow closer together. This should make his lip repair surgery in September go a little more smoothly and have less of a scar. On the plus side he is now over 10 pounds and is 22 inches long. All the doctors are pleased with his weight gain.
Re: Edmund update
sounds like you - and his doctors - are really proactive about all of this, great job mama! (I know it probably seems like common sense to you but you'd be surprised!).
Does he have to wear the 'retainer' all day - how will he eat? As well as he's growing, it doesn't sound like it's going to be a problem though!
Poor little guy! Do you have to remove it to feed him?
Great news on his weight gain! Good job mamma!
He still is such a cutie and it doesn't look like it's bothering him to much. Love how bright eyed he is.
I'm going to make an AWESOME big brother.
Wow, you are really positive, great job.
Sounds like good news, especially the weight gain! Great job mama! It is so hard to see your little one go through medical procedures and deal with the interventions, but babies are so resilient. You are doing awesome and while it doesn't feel like it, the time will move quickly and someday this will be a memory.
And, oh my gosh, he has amazing big eyes!
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
