I am getting a new car in the the next couple of months. I currently drive a 2001 Jeep Cherokee (stick) and am in the market for a more luxurious vehicle. It needs to have AWD or 4WD, which unfortunately narrows the field a bit.
I looked yesterday and am interested in the following vehicles, though I have not test driven any of them yet. I am really torn on having optional 3rd row seating. Thoughts on that?
5 seaters:
Nissan Murano
Suburu Outback
Ford Edge
Chevy Equinox
optional 3rd row vehicles
Suburu Tribeca
Fort Explorer
Toyota Highlander
Chevy Traverse
Sooooo....if you have any of the following vehicles, what do you think?
Re: New Car - Any Input?
We had a Toyota Highlander which we loved! It was comfortable and looked nice and the gas mileage wasn't bad for an SUV. We test drove a 2010 Highlander and it was great! The only reason that we got rid of ours was because we decided to get a Sienna minivan when we found out we were expecting twins.
The third row seat in the Highlander is pretty cramped, but better than it was in the 2004 model (the one we had). I guess that I would get it in case a child would sit back there at some point, but it's not very spacious for adults. Good luck!
Well I don't have any of those cars that you listed. But I do have a new HOnda Pilot that I LOVE...I love that it is big without being too big..has the 3nd row even thought we don't use it much..plenty of trunk space for dogs, groceries, stroller, ect. It's super comfortable and is rated one of the safest SUV's by consumer reports. I lOVE it..so I would go test that one if I were you..We leased ours also and got a great deal..My husband said he would NEVER buy a HOnda and this car changed his mind..we are now a two car Honda/Acura family!
My gf just got a GMC Acaida (the same as the traverse) she lOVES it! It has two things that my Pilot doesn't have. One is the automatic lift gate...and handsfree..both would be ideal in the pilot...
SHe looked at most of the ones you listed. She liked the new Explorer but she said it was SUPER electronic..like it has an IPad in it or something and she thought it would break to eaisly or she would be distracted touching all the buttons!
I don't know about the new Explorers..but it's about the same size. They are all classified at medium size SUV's, Explorer, Traverse, Pilot, Acadia,Highlander, ect.. I think because the Pilot is shaped like a BOX it looks bigger then it is..it's def wider though then older models (we drove one this weekeind and our is wider not bigger)..
Hope you don't mind me answering, lurking here from PAIF. I drive a 2006 Ford Explorer, without the optional third row seating... my IL's have a 2004 with the third row seating. That third row is pretty cramped, as most are, so it's only really good for kids... adults do not fit well.
I like my Explorer, it gets decent gas mileage considering its size. I do have a hard time still with parking, especially parallel, just due to its size... and from the fact that I moved up from having a Honda Fit to this monstrosity. But I love the safety factor and the room we'll have. It has a huge space in the back (without having the 3rd row seating) for hauling all the crap that will be invading our lives when this LO arrives. And seeing as how we travel back home to Ohio a lot, we wanted something that will be safe in the snow/ice and have some weight to it. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer!
We have been looking, we are getting ready to trade in my 07 Cherokee- I really liked the GM Arcadia (just like the Traverse) because of the 3rd row seat- that's what we are going for- not for anyone to sit there, but just more for cargo space.
I have heard great things about the new Explorer (my gay husband is a huge car snob- I always trust his advice when it comes to cars) and he loves the new explorers. A good friend of mine got the Edge and really really likes it- it's nice looking too.
One thing about the Murano's my mom had one- there is huge blind spot that she hated.
Have you looked at the new Cherokee's? I test drove the Overland edition one over the weekend, it's the updated version on mine- and I LOVE it- it doesnt have the 3rd row seat, but it's amazing I'm willing to overlook the 3rd row for Satellite TV in the car! - it has every option you can image. I thought my car had everything, but it has more then I could image- we are leaning towards getting another Cherokee, I have not had one problem with my 07.
