what did you get your kid(s) for their 1st birthday?

i started collections for my kids, madame alexander for marlo and steiff for theo but mh wants to get them something else, and wants it to be "special" but something they will get a lot of use out of. i am at a complete loss so would appreciate any ideas!

    What about a radio flyer red wagon? My friends LO's love theirs and it can be passed down. We plan on getting one for Henry. We also want to get him a play tunnel. That would appeal to both boys and girls.

    I second the wagon idea.  We got Stella a wagon for her 1st b-day and now she and Hadley ride in it ALL the time.  It was a huge hit then and remains a huge hit today!

    Henry got a wagon for his 1st, which he does love...but nothing we've ever given him has gotten more use than this.

    We got DS a Blabla.  It is super cute even at 4 to watch him make sure it goes with us for overnights.  Licorice is definitely his comfort creature.

    We got Elizabeth a water table for her first birthday and she loves it even more this year. It's definitely something she's getting a lot of use out of. Plus, last fall and this spring when it was still too cool for water, we had it on our patio room filled with sand.
    After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

    i love the idea of the trike, i just don't know how it would work as i certainly can't push 2 of those down the same time, i wish they made a double!

    This may sound terrible but we didn't get him anything. We did something special with him on his actual b-day since he didn't know the difference. There is nothing he needed at that age and grandparents and relatives went way over the top.
    "Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."

    Holy crap, your kids are almost a year old!?!  How did that happen?

    I didn't get G anything for her first (before you cry for her, I have more than made up for it this time around ; ) but some of her favorite gifts from her birthday that she still uses are a rocking horse and a ball popper.

    With that said, shortly after her birthday I bought her a kitchen and a buggie car (the kind you push for them) and I think those would have made great 1st birthday gifts.

    A party, lol.

    We didn't do gifts.  I couldn't think of anything "big" and didn't want to get him more small stuff.  My MIL bought him a water table and my mom bought him a covered wagon.  We bought a bike seat for our bike with some gift cards.

    I've been thinking about buying him some type of play house or small swing set (like the one Kim has).  I can't decide if we'll just wait to get him a big kids swing set though.

    We got him this. Not super meaningful/sentimental but a bigger toy than we'd buy him when not a special occasion. We were going to get him a ride-on car but our best friends got him a Cozy Coupe and he didn't need two. He does love that cozy coupe!

    I got a bbq grill (from Land of Nod), a chef's hat, and a bbq apron so he could pretend to grill just like daddy. 

    (I also set up my play kitchen from when I was a kid.)
