Parenting after a Loss

Mamas of older babies (12m+)

I know A is not even a year, but I want to start researching different parenting styles and I remember lkstor recommending a book to Addicted, but I can't find that thread.

Any ideas? I am really looking for something that has a section on how to teach interaction with pets since DD loves to poke at our poor dogs eyes.

  • I'm curious about this too...and what do you guys do with your pet food?  I have been lifting it off the floor b/c LO is trying to eat it!!

  • Whenever my daughter would pull or poke at our dog, I would just firmly say "No!" then I'd take her hand and teach her the appropriate way to pet the dog, while saying "Nice touch, nice..." And even though she was still young, I would tell her that hurting the dog made the dog sad, and did not feel good.

She got it after a few tries, and it got to the point that if she ever starts to hurt the dog in any way, I just say, "Nice touch," and she begins to pet the dog gently.

We pick it up too. DD loves to fling the water bowl across the kitchen. Indifferent

  • I never felt I needed a parenting book when Jake was younger
I just read the What to expect the first year then WTET toddler years
I really think you need to cater your style to fit the child.

It was not until I REALLY had to start disciplining Jake that I looked to books for tips on how to do it effectively
The book Lisa suggested was playful parenting & it has been a good read
.. but I dont think it applies to babies
