Milk Intolerance

My son was diagnosed with a milk intolerance not a full blown allergy to dairy but just a intolerance. So I'm wondering what food's are safe to eat and what's not ok to eat. Am I still able to eat and chocolate I want like snicker's etc... or just stop that all together. I'm thinking since it's just a intolerance It's just the obvious things like milk, yogurt, ice cream and things like that. But I'm not sure, any help would be wonderful Thanks!

Re: Milk Intolerance

  • My LO has MSPI. Most likely you will have to cut all milk products. Google MI and it will tell you what ingredients to avoid, which means you have to read labels on everything you eat.

  • The intolerance part typically just means that it may not be lifelong, not that it is less intense than an allergy. There are a lot of dairy substitutes... lots of chocolate is dairy free. Mostly dark, but even Oreos and Hershey's syrup are dairy free. I list what I eat and some websites to check out in my blog.

It depends on how severe it is, but I look for whey and casein in products, but for some people just not drinking milk is enough. PP mentions MSPI... just so you know most (I think it's 60%) who are sensitive to dairy also can't have soy.

DD had a milk and soy intolerance so we kept her off milk until she was 1 year. She had super special formula up until then. At a year her intolerance lowered but we still have to give her prunes every day to keep her stomach working right.
