XP: Anyone have shutters installed?

DH and I are thinking about having wood shutters intstalled in our living/dining room and maybe kitchen. Have you had them installed? Who did you use? We're looking at getting estimates from Lowes/HD/3 day blinds, but if I could cut down on the number of consultations I have to sit through, I'd be thrilled. TIA

Re: XP: Anyone have shutters installed?

  • We got estimates from Home Depot, 3 Day Blinds, and JCPenney.  We went with JCPenney and were really happy with the service, quality, and the cost.

  • I used to work for, and sell shutters for, both HD and 3 Day Blinds... At the time, HD had the better quality shutters at a better price. That being said, they have since changed shutter manufacturers and I'm not sure how the new brand compares. As far as getting prices from HD or Lowes, it's pretty easy. You can just measure your windows. Just figure the square footage of each window (round up) and multiply it by the price per square foot. I think HD is $25 or $29 (you can call and they'll tell you over the phone), and Lowe's should be similar. I know my favorite brand of shutters was Clarion shutters. I was always impressed with their product and service... Maybe you can call them and see where they're sold now? Good luck! I'm jealous :-P

Thanks for all the info - that's super helpful. I'll have DH measure the windows tonight and get a quick estimate - it's only three windows (though one is huge). But I think they will make a big impact in the room (we're also adding wainscotting to that room) and I just don't want to deal with curtains in that room.

  • We used Bay Home and Window -- they were amazing and our shutters are fantastic. I appreciate that not only are they a locally owned company, but that they have good customer service and they really stand behind a quality product. We ended up with plantation shutters that I could not be happier with.
  • We went with 3 day blinds. The consultation was easy and painless and the installer worked around our crazy schedule. We love the look and quality of our shutters.

  • I second Bay Home and Window.  I had several estimates from different companies including JC Penney's.  Bay Home and Window had the best quality and their service was great.  We had plantation shutters installed in all of our bedrooms and in our living room.  Love them.
