Would you use this?

So last night I took out frozen chicken, put it in the sink, and later asked my husband to put it in the fridge for me...he forgot.

This morning it was still very cold to the touch, but definitely thawed. I would say it was out from about 10 pm to 8 am. It was rock solid when I put it in the sink.

Would you use it? I HATE wasting food!

Re: Would you use this?

  • I hate wasting food too, especially meat but I wouldn't use it.

    My dad probably would have.

I, on the other hand, don't risk things like that with meat, especially all things poultry.  Is $5-$10 worth of chicken worth the risk of getting food poisoning?

    fwiw, I found this link:

  • I would. If it's still cold to the touch (not room temp) I'd say it's still good.

  • I'd probably still use it, but make sure to cook it thoroughly (check temp. instead of just eyeballing the color). I think the rule, back when I worked in foodservice, was not to let food stand more than 4 hours at greater than 45 degrees.

  • No way. I know when I was a kid we used to thaw stuff in the sink all day but the idea of doing that now makes me want to yak. Way too much risk for my liking.

  • As long as it doesn't have an offensive odor I would still use it. My husband has been known to do the same thing and I've cooked it and we all survived, no food poisoning or even upset stomach.
