But yes, it is kid friendly. There is a trail you have to trek down to get to the pool (not stroller friendly) - so you'll probably want to put your 1-year-old in some type of carrier. It's about a 10 min walk down.
It's beautiful although last we went there weren't many falls because of the drought.
call their information line ahead also just to check to see if the pool is closed due to bacteria levels. times of drought leave the pool water stagnent and the water may be too gross to swim in.
DH & I took DSS last Monday and it was great and is definitely kid friendly since the depth gradually declines instead of a drop off. My advice for you though would definitely get there by 10:30. After 11 there starts a line as they only allow 75 cars in the parking lot at a time and less if someone double parks. Also there is a .25 mile hike downhill to the pool that is not accessible by stroller so if you're going alone and taking a lot of things it's not the easiest with 2 small children, I imagine. I also recommend you pump up your floats (if you take them) at the pool because the walkway is pretty narrow so you'd have to step aside for others to pass a lot. There is very little shade on the very small "beach area" so bring an umbrella if you have one. I agree that you should definitely call the daily hotline before you go to make sure it's open. It's $10/car.
If you don't mind driving a little further last Sunday we went to Krause Springs and liked it a lot better. It was $6/person. It's very similar to Hamilton Pool in that it's a spring fed pool with a water fall. There isn't a hike down to the water and they also have a regular swimming pool that has a nice view that is also spring fed. They have tons of covered/shaded areas to lounge as well as picnic tables and benches. The area by the natural swimming hole is very shaded as well and you're not limited to a small beach like you are at Hamilton Pool - there's PLENTY of lounge space. Though there are shallower areas and deeper areas - not a gradual decline. But over all we definitely like Krause over Hamilton any day. Definitely worth the couple extra bucks and further drive for us.
Re: hamilton pool
I haven't heard about the wildfires there!
