Observation re: two kids

Liam is eating table food now, three meals and two snacks. I am amazed at HOW MUCH my grocery bill has jumped since this started. He's not that big!

Re: Observation re: two kids

  • What are you feeding Liam now?  I feel so behind on getting Taylor on 3 meals a day.  He is still only eating baby food for lunch and dinner.  I just started giving him puffs.  I guess it's because he doesn't have any teeth yet.  But I need to get it together!

  • Well Liam has 8 teeth and is working on a 9th.  He seems to have mastered chewing in a circular motion, too.  I watch him while he does it, but I give him a whole banana and he eats it.  Almost a whole one.  He wants pretty much nothing to do with food on spoons, although I still give him some.

For breakfast he usually has banana, some yogurt and some Trader Joe's O's.  For lunch he eats a veggie pancake or a veggie burger with some diced vegetable (this week we have sweet potatoes or beets), some diced fruit and some cottage cheese with water.  For dinner he eats kale and quinoa that I pureed together.  He's not a fan, but oh well. He also eats corn, peas or carrots, and more water.   Although last night we had fish tacos, he had some fish, some corn and tomato salsa, some black beans and some rice.

For snacks he eats TJs animal crackers, cheese sticks, fruit, graham cracker sticks, goldfish, etc,,,

oh and tj's mini ravioli are a huge hit in this house.

  • Hahaha!  That's b/c he's a boy!  My 11 year old niece is coming to stay with us and be my "helper" for a month or so this summer.  My mom has already warned me to double or triple my grocery budget b/c even though that girl is skinny as a pole, she will eat me out of house and home.  When my brother and SIL and their 3 kids were here for Christmas, my mom told me that she went to Sams 3 times in one week b/c they kept eating everything!  She said she doesn't know how my brother affords it- lol!

  • And it doesn't get any better as they get older!  Both my 21 month old son and my 15 year old son can eat me & my husband under the table.
  • I dread this. If this guy keeps up his current appetite we will be destitute by the time he is 18. I am looking forward to HOPEFULLY not having to get up 1-4 times a night once he starts on solids.

Yeah, I was so looking forward to this too.  And it was nice for about 2 weeks.  Now she has moved into a new developmental phase and waking up 2-3 times a night again.  Not fair.

I definitely notice an increase in the grocery bill having 2 kids on real food.

  • yes, this is why I don't understand how people can only spend $50 on groceries for a week, we spend that in milk alone.

Yes, this already.  And Liam is not drinking milk yet.

Ramen noodles and powdered milk :)

JK--no idea how people keep their grocery bill down feeding real healthy food to kids..especially fruit.

Ditto this! We go through about 4 gallons of skim milk a week (danielle and I) and about 2-3 gallons of Soy milk (darren) a week. DH doesn't drink milk. We had to buy another fridge just to have our milk storage! ;-)
