D.C. Area Babies

I knew it would happen one day :-(

I clipped LO's thumb with the nail clippers and it bled a little. And it hurt a lot. And he screamed and screamed. And looked at me with sad, sad eyes that said "Why did you hurt me, Mommy."

Then I cried. And nursed him and snuggled him until he stopped crying. And he eventually got calm, and even smiled a bit, but now he keeps tucking his thumb under his fingers so it doesn't get hurt again, and every time I see it, it makes me sad :-(

  • don't feel bad, we've all done it! I remember crying right along with DD but she was just fine!

  • DH did this the very first time we used the clippers. DS cried for a minute or so, but DH shed a couple tears too, he was so upset about it! He felt so awful. I was secretly so glad it was him and not me...but of course I did it too eventually. Glad you got some good snuggles afterwards!

  • You are a brave mommy! I have never clipped LO's nails. I bite them and file them, but I am scared to clip. I did get my dad to do it though. Go grandpa power!

  • awww! the EXACT same thing happened to me when DS was a baby. and i cried. and i was traumatized probably more than him. and now, I'm super careful with DD's nails.

  • I did that once when I was trying to clip his nails while he was sleeping. My poor child was awakened by having his tiny finger clipped :( I have since handed off manicure duty to DH. He does an impressive job.

  • Been there!  I did that to DD #1 when she was a baby, but my other two kids have lucked out (so far!)
Wife, Musician, Fed, WW-er, and Mom of three little kids - not necessarily in that order.
  • I don't use clippers, I use baby scissors and only cut DS' nails when he naps but when I cut DD's nails and she cried it was with scissors

  • Don't feel badly, most of us have done it.  I did it to Maggie as a baby and luckily once the pain is gone they do forget easily at that age.
