Successful GD Induction!

GD got me a date with an induction last Wednesday, my actual due date.  We had wanted a natural birth with no intervention or meds, but got the opposite.

They started picotin right away and the contractions came hard and fast.  We played trival pursuit between contractions....highly recommended!

I had nothing to compare, but the pain got pretty difficult.  My Lamaze breathing was overtaken by plain ole wailing...which really made me feel better.  The birthing ball and walking did nothing for me!

After I got to five centimeters, the nurse said that Picotin usually dilates at 1 cm an hour.  The thought of five more hours of this without any meds sounded downright insane.  My husband and I set a time goal and we waited until then to decide what to do.

I finally decided to get an epidural and it was super easy to have administered.  Then, I could actually communicate with my husband and the doctor and the nurses.  I found this to be a real benefit to the epidural.  I jumped to ten centimeters fast.

All of a sudden, they were preparing the baby warmer and putting up the stirrups.  I must be a champ at pushing, because suddenly that baby popped out!

I couldn't believe that something so big had been inside me!  My husband and I were overcome.  We had been team green, so we were thrilled to meet our little girl for the first time:  Astrid!

After all the nonsense with GD, my baby was 6 pounds and ten ounces and her blood sugar was normal. I'm back to eating chocolate chip pancakes!  Take that GD!

  • I am SO happy to hear your experience!  I'm not 100% convinced I won't have any medication, but I've got a doula and am hoping to keep things as "natural" as possible.  I SO fear an induction and pitocin!  I am thrilled to hear that your labor went well and fairly quickly.  You're an inspiration!  We're in the process of learning about possible low amniotic fluid and also finding out the size of the baby b/c of GD and the words c-section, induction and early delivery are starting to pop up.  It's nerve wracking, but hearing your success story helps!  Thanks for sharing.
