  • glad to know im not the only one...ive always been the kind of person who does well with 5 or 6 hrs a sleep per night...since 2 wks before find out I was preg I am soooo tired I dont have a normal life anymore! Im 14wks 2day so at my next ob apt in 2 wks I am asking about this if it doesnt go away
  • I would second the suggestion of talking to your doctor. It could be any number of things, most of them are easy to correct. Orrr you could be like me, where in my first trimester I was awake long enough to eat and get a few things done and then I was asleep again. I could not keep my eyes open. That baby drains a lot of energy out of you!

    Baby #3- ????? (ttc soon)

  • i slept a lot during my 2nd trimester with my youngest dd.  i would get up, bring the kids to their summer program.  come home, sleep for 2hrs, get up and pick them up... then come home and sleep for another 2 hrs.  i did this ALL.SUMMER.LONG.  in my experience, it was due to low iron levels.  i can't take the iron pills, even if they are slow release.  so, i started adding more red meat to my diet - which helped a lot.

when the 3rd trimester came around, i got 4hrs of sleep at a whack.  no more, no less.  every single night.  often times i was up between 12-4am and then back to sleep for about 2 or 3hrs before having to get up with the kids for school.

towards the end of my pregnancy, my dr tried prescribing a sleeping pill for me, but when i researched the med she prescribed, i found that it was an anxiety med.  i wasn't comfortable with the thought of taking it.  i wasn't anxious, just did not sleep.. and i've always suffered from insomnia.

i hope you're feeling relatively normal soon.

  • I'm in the same boat.  I survive whatever I have to, but pretty much sleep most of the day.  I'm hoping that either my energy will come back soon or the doctor will be able to help me out (my appointment is in a couple of weeks).  It's extremely frustrating!  Sorry I don't have any advice, but know that there's someone else out there who is struggling with this as well.
