Anyone sold a crib on CL?

Sometimes I wish I had one of those DH who didn't care about decorations, furniture.. but I don't so moving on.

DH said last night he doesn't want the twins cribs to be not matching not only wood color, but also overall. It bothers me because I would rather just go the cheaper route, who really cares about overall looks. Since he doesn't seem to want to compromise on that it looks like I would be buying two new cribs (most likely Graco Lauren's) and then selling Darrian's crib.

I think we paid $300 for it 3 years ago. I don't expect to get that much back at all, but how much do you think I should list it for? It is in good condition.

Also anyone selling a crib mattress by chance?

Re: Anyone sold a crib on CL?

  • I think it depends a lot on what brand of crib it is, but maybe a $100.

As far as crib mattresses, if you are going to be ordering from CSN or even not check out these.

  • If it is nice and not dropside give a call to They Grow So Fast in Lafayette. My sister got 300 for the crib my mom paid 450.
  • Are there rules about selling cribs that no longer meet safey standards/requirements when it's done through sites like CL and by a previous owner?  I only ask b/c I believe the latest safety standards are coming out end of June and from what I understand most cribs won't meet them in some way (i.e. even the one we just bought in the last month won't meet it...which is fine for me, but I thought I understood that I can't sell it ever b/c of this)...I don't know much about this, but thought I'd mention it.

  • There are no CL rules - it's all buyer beware.  :-)  I think you could easily get $100 for it on CL.

Is it dropside?  I tried to sell my dropside crib on CL, and no one would touch it.  I ended up donating it.

Free, on the other hand, you wouldn't believe how quickly those go on CL.  We've put 4 free items up on CL, some of them so crappy we were just going to dump on the curb for the trash man to pick up.  I was flooded with CL replies and in each case, someone came by to pick up the item within an hour of posting.

It is not dropside, but I don't know if it is all up to code or whatever? Maybe I will list it for $75 and see what happens?

  • No way!  I would list at either $100 or even $125.  You know everyone on CL is looking for a deal.  Let them offer $75, and hope that someone will pay list price for it!

    I agree with this!

I don't know anything about the new regulations but I do know that when they banned drop sides that it was written into the laws that it was specifically illegal to sell them used so when people reported posting to CL that they took them down.

  • The new regulations do make it illegal to sell cribs that don't meet the new standards. This goes for selling a used one as well. But I think the new regulations don't start until the end of June, like the 28th or so, so you'd have a short time to sell it legally.
