XP from TTTC: Does anyone here see an RE in the Seattle area?

Hi, I'm new here.  My midwife just told me I need to go see an RE.  My husband and I have been TTC for almost a year.  Since I chart, my midwife checked out my charts and said we didn't need to wait any longer to try to find out why we haven't gotten pg yet.  She wanted to do the Clomid challenge, but my u/s made her worried about potential for OHSS.  She doesn't want me wasting time with her, and feels we need a specialist.I'm just wondering if any of you wouldn't mind sharing your experience with your RE.  I'm big on reviews, and quite frankly, the ones I googled kind of scared me.  TIA!

  • First off let me just congratulate your midwife for not trying to do RE stuff on her own... you'll be much better off going to an RE.   A lot of us have had TTTC and have gone to REs in the area.. you're not alone!

I went to Overlake Reproductive Medicine and loved Dr. Johnson.  I was not in love with the front office staff, but it's been many years since I was there doing treatments so they have probably changed since then.

I know a lot of women on this board have liked the REs up at Evergreen - someone else will give you specific names I'm sure.

  • I know people who have seen the REs at UWMC and they've been very happy with their experience!  GL!

  • I'm really sorry that you are having to go through this!  Quite a few of us went through Northwest Center for Repro Sciences in Kirkland (now merged with Seattle Reproductive Medicine).  I was very comfortable there and really trusted the RE's.  Dr Kennedy was my primary RE there, and I saw Dr Opsahl often, too.  I really liked both of them, as well as the nurses.  The clinic is located next to Evergreen Hospital.

    Good luck to you!!

  • I definitely think it is better to seek help from an RE early rather than rely on a midwife or OB, because RE's are better set-up to deal with fertility problems.  I saw Dr. Soules at SRM after just 6 months of trying because clearly I was having issues with late ovulation based on my charts.  When choosing an RE one thing to think about is convenience because you will be going there a lot during a treatment cycle.  When I did the clomid challenge there was one week where I went there during 4 of my 5 lunch breaks.  I was very happy that they were within walking distance from my work.

  • Thanks so much for your responses ladies.  My midwife IS pretty awesome, and I'm glad she doesn't want to waste my time.  She recommended SRM & NW Center for Reproductive Science - the latter of which is closer to my work (although I think SRM has an eastside office?).  I'm glad to hear that you all had good experiences at both places.

I used Dr johnson too.  Really liked him and I liked Jo the nurse there.  I didn't like the other dr Rehman there.

I think NW Center is now SRM's east side office.

  • I responded on your other post but thought I would respond here as well. We are going to Pacific NW Fertility. They are in downtown Seattle right by Swedish. I have never had a problem with them. We are seeing Dr Marshall and she is amazing. She explains things in a way both my husband & I can understand. They are very quick at returning calls. Generally it's the IVF coordinator or Dr Marshall's medical assistant that returns the calls. They are open on weekends so it makes it really convenient when you have monitoring.

  • After we had a bit of trouble conceiving #2, we went to Northwest Center for Reproductive Sciences in Kirkland and saw Dr. Kennedy. I have to be honest, I wasn't overly thrilled with her bedside manner. I won't go into the story here, but because of what she did, I switched to Dr. Opsahl who I did enjoy.

My only complaint overall, was with billing. I ended up getting pregnant the very next month after visiting them, (naturally, only thing I had done there was testing at that point) and called the office to let them know. We had a pretty high reproductive services cap with our insurance at 100% coverage, and they definitely took full advantage of it. They charged our insurance for 2 extra baseline U/S's that were never preformed as well as the labs for the CCT that I never took. And it was a very, very long back and forth process to get them to fix it. Pretty annoying, and left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Should we need help down the line, I may end up going somewhere else. They merged with the Seattle Reproductive Center, so maybe they are a little better? Not sure, but absolute best of luck to you! :)

  • We went to SRM (but mostly the Tacoma office).  I saw Dr. Dudley as my primary RE and loved him.  He was very proactive and worked with us to take things at the pace we were ready to go without pushing anything we weren't comfortable with on us.  If we continue to have troubles when we (actively) TTC #2 we will definitely be going back to SRM.  I met a couple of the other Drs at the Seattle office during the IVF process and they were great as well.

I hope you are able to find an RE that works well for you guys and you conceive your little miracle soon! GL - IF is HARD ..there are several of us here that have been through it and are here to chat if you need anything :)
