NBR: Gypsy Weddings...

OK.  I'm watching my first episode... I don't get it.  Where do they get so much money for these big weddings and all?  And if they're "nomadic" why do they have houses?  I dont' get it.  THey don't seem nomadic.  They just seem like a bunch of crazy people with gaudy taste, too much booze and men who are jerks to their women.  I'm confused.

    ok I'm seeing now... fighting for money, doing random odd jobs... but still.  this guy seems to have a LOT of money for someone who mostly runs a trailer park.

    Ah, you're watching the Paddy Dougherty one.  I just watched it yesterday. :-)  Yeah, I don't get it either.  Where do they get the money for the elaborate dresses and parties?  I know they've said some Travellers/Gypsies have chosen to live in houses, but others still live in caravans/trailers.

    I was wondering why the Gypsy girl who had a job for 5 yrs, as well as her own money and a car, gave it all up to be a housewife.  She obviously was unhappy and was calling the van a "prison."  I'm sure she'd be ostracized in her community if she didn't, but it seemed so sad, knowing how miserable she'd be.

    I keep watching the show.  It's like a pink tulle covered, glittery, confusing train wreck.

    You'd have a lot more money too if you lived in a $10,000-$20,000 house!

    OK what is the obsession with cleaning?  They spend all day long cleaning a 200 sf trailer?  Why do they need to pull a girl out of school to clean a trailer?

    I've not seen the show you're talking about, but a hotel I interned at had gypsy weddings at least once a month. and yes, all the wonderful trailer trashiness you're talking about is totally true.
