Team Green - let's talk nursery

I think we're going to be Team Green, and I'm starting to put my registry together.  I'd like to get bedding that is a little more exciting than just green and yellow, but there aren't many options.  However, some "boy" bedding could be made more gender neutral.  If you're Team Green, what colors/bedding are you using?

  • There is some cute stuff at PBK that I was considering. It the white bumper with stripes on the edges...The Harper? I forget exactly, but you can totally mix and match. If you get something GN for the bumper/crib skirt to begin with and add white sheets you can add more girl/boy themed sheets later. I personally love white bedding :) Although you might find that less exciting like green and yellow...

We have girl bedding and boy bedding that we like; we'll purchase the one that we need after the baby arrives.  Or we will purchase both and return the one that we do not need.  We will have extra crib sheets that are gender neutral for when the baby comes home.  We are doing a puppy theme, so the accents will be gender neutral and the same if it is a boy or girl.

  • I'm not a fan of pre-packaged baby bedding sets. Especially since some people think that you're not supposed to use the blankets and research shows that bumpers can be dangerous. I just can't see buying a matchy-matchy set that includes both items and not using them. I plan to choose a couple of colorful bedskirts and buy several solid sheets to match. Etsy has a ton of great patterns and fabrics. I plan to order there and just pick up solid sheets to go with them.

  • We were working on getting out of debt when we had our first LO, and we lived in a tiny house at the time, so I made do with a pretty tight space. Only bought crib skirt and bedsheets, made my own wall art, etc. Here are some pics of (what turned out to be "her") nursery.

For this LO I will be making my own crib sheets (so many more fabrics to choose from). We did eventually get a breathable bumper for DD (when she got big enough to move around and starting getting her legs stuck in the crib slats) but I suspect for most kiddos they are not necessary at all.

Soo cute!!  Love the wall art!  Great job :)

  • We decided on something called "in the pond."  It's green, yellow, brown and blue and has lots of frogs, turtles, ducks, snails, ets.  I think it's cute.  We are going to get a breathable bumper that is either brown or blue, depending on the baby's gender once LO comes.  It's harder when you are team green, but there are definitely things out there.  You could always find some polka dots or geometric designs in certain colors if you didn't want a specific "theme."

We are keeping the room color, hot chocolate brown and going with cream, sage, and Willow Organic and Bunny Meadow for sheets.  That's it for "bedding" as we plan to use sleep sacks for the baby's blankets.  No bumpers or bed skirts.

For decoration, we are going with the Willow Organic and Bunny Meadow changing pad cover (cream with brown designs), and blanket and pillows (for the rocking chair.)   : )

  • I'm making our bedding, crib skirt and sheets, so I'll make this decision when I start fabric shopping.  I am considering lavender and yellow.  I consider them to be gender neutral.

  • We are doing the following set:

We aren't using the bumpers (I am going to give them to my seamstress and tell her to make something out of them that we can use) and we are hanging the quilt on a quilt rack or the wall for the time being. I love that the animals are a little more whimsical looking.

  • Here is the bedding set we have for our son.  We were team green:

And just to be an AW here is how my mom painted the walls:

I like this bedding set because it was one of the only ones that I could TRUELY see working for either sex AND me being happy with it and not regretting going gender neutral.  Side note: I normally HATE gender neutral stuff- we didn't buy gender neutral clothes at all, we just bought for both sexes!

We are moving Nolan to his "big boy" room this week so the baby will go in there if we keep the house but if we move I plan on not doing the nursery until the baby is born and just setting it up around a couple months.  We sleep with the baby in our room for the first 4 or so months anyway to facilitate breastfeeding so a nursery won't be needed until March at the earliest.

  • Go onto www.Etsy.com and in the search type "baby bedding" or "crib bedding" there are some amazing fabrics out there! My friend did lime green, black and white with a black elephant graphic and they were gender neutral. Enjoy!!!!

The thing my sister did was go pretty neutral until she found out the babies were both girls and got a wall applique that was girly (a tree with 2 owls for the two girls). Not to mention once they knew it was girls, everything that came into the house was pink, so all the boxes, blankets, etc on the shelves make no mistake it's a GIRL room!

We have this bedding for our DD and we have the same green and white scheme on the walls but we have beadboard on the bottom.  I think your mom's painting is great!!!

We're planning on doing the same - move DD into a big girl room and put the baby in the nursery.

  • We're just doing a breathable bumper and sheets. So much of the crib bedding is a waste of money. That said we did buy a set with DD1 and sold it when she was a few months old. It was just a dust collector.

    Ditto to this.

We did not buy a set.  I feel like we save so much money but getting 2 sheets and a breathable bumper.  That's it.   The blankets and thick bumpers that come w/ the set aren't used.   We were team green as well and did a brown bumper and the sheets with brown and green.   We didn't have a theme  for her room.... when she was 4 months old we ended up moving and painted the room purple and kept her bedding.  We have added some girly accents to the room and we love it.

Yes!  This is the Willow Organic stuff that we are using but only the sheets.  So cute!
