Pregnant after a Loss

Baby furniture and anxiety

Today DH and I were running errands and we were looking for a baby book. We went a few places and then landed at BRU. We checked to see if they had a floor model of the Graco Shelby (the crib we agreed on) but they don't carry it in the stores. No big deal- we knew we could buy online. We were talking with an employees and he said it was a shame that we had already picked one out, because they were running an awesome closeout deal.

He showed us the Carters Sleep Haven (usually $399.99) and said they are not going to have one set up in the store anymore so they are trying to sell their stock. It was marked down to $99.00 this weekend. DH and I thought about it for a bit and decided to get both the crib and the dresser (also available for $99.00- originally $399.99). We ended up spending less on both pieces than we were planning to spend on the Shelby.

DH was really the driving force behind the purchase, though we both agree it was a deal we couldn't pass up. I'm very anxious- we weren't planning on buying furniture for quite a while. He knows I'm struggling with the purchase (and our upcoming EDD) and is trying to be supportive.

I wish I could just be naive and rainbows and butterflies about this pregnancy. I love being pregnant and I feel fantastic physically- I just wish I could get through the door at BRU without my heart pounding and feeling sick to my stomach. I have to keep reminding myself that just because we bought furniture it doesn't mean that we've jinxed ourselves and we're going to lose the baby. Must. Shut. Off. Brain. Sometimes being PGAL is really hard Sad

After two losses, a rainbow arrived! DD born 11.5.11

  • We found out today that our crib was ordered off our registry.  While I'm completely thrilled by the grandparent-to-be's generosity...the idea of it being in the house so soon is pretty overwhelming. I also understand the uneasiness of having them enter the house so close to your former EDD (if my math is right, our former EDDs are pretty close together).

I think you made the right move getting them now.  That's a helluva deal and if you liked it, you were right to go for it.

Yup, I think our EDD's are very close. I'm on the 28th. You? I think it's great that the Grandparents-to-be got your crib, but it definitely is off-putting. Hang in there! (P.S. I can't believe how close you are to V-day! I can't wait to see you hit that milestone!)

My original EDD was July 15th.  It seems like there are a ton of us getting to our EDDs in June/July.  I don't know about June, but I know July had a lot of ladies head to the mc/pl board about the time I did.  We're kind of split between PgAL and TTCAL now (FX those on TTCAL get BFPs soon!)

Just 2 weeks from V-Day!  Absolutely shocking to even think about.  I remember when I first got over to PgAL not even believing I'd be around to the 6 week mark...and here it is so much later.  There are absolutely no words for how thankful I am that this little guy is doing well.

  • Just keep telling yourself that this pregnancy is different.  The anxiety is normal for us PgALers.  I also recently bought baby furniture and was feeling anxious at the same time.  You sound like you got a great deal and I would not be able to pass that kinda deal also.  Hugs

Agreed. And you don't have to set everything up right away. I just set my crib up at 36 weeks. Any sooner and I think I would have been annoyed with cleaning around it and dusting it off
