Do you cut LO's hair yourself?

Or do you take him/her to a salon?

I've been putting it off and putting it off, but my little man needs a haircut. He has one of those awesome mullets that's ALL curls in the back. It looks adorable to me, but I'm getting more and more "is that a girl?" comments, not to mention obnoxious comments from my family. As much as I want to hang on to the curls, it's time for a cut.

Unfortunately, we don't have one of those adorable (but overpriced, I'm sure) kiddie haircut places nearby. So it'd be a regular salon. Plus, we just moved here, so I don't even have a stylist yet myself....but I'm scared that I'm going make him look ridiculous if I do it myself!

  • I took DS to a regular barber who does kids as well.  I went to Snip Its once and it's a huge ripoff.

  • Yes.

I find it pretty easy. I have shears and then layering shears. I cut it vertically (like a mohawk) and then vertically on the sides with each kind (first shears to length, then layering one time) so it falls layered and not choppy. I keep him in his high chair and put on a favorite cartoon and he doesn't fight or wiggle too much.

  • I do it myself. It`s tough but I do it.

  • I do it myself, mostly because DS freaks out around strangers so there's no way he'd sit still at a barbershop.
  • I do it myself. And I was terrified the first few times. If you want to try it, start small. Cut off just a little length in back and practice making it straight. The first couple of times you could hardly tell I cut anything off but it gave me more confidence. I usually put DD in her highchair and DH talks to her and holds her attention while I work on the back and sides. When I do the bangs, I have him hold her head still so I dn't have to worry about the scissors near her eyes. You're lucky, curly hair is more forgiving so if it's not perfect, it won't be so noticable.

I do it myself while his hair is wet and he's playing in the bathtub. He doesn't even realize it's being done!!
  • With the girls, no, they go to the same salon as me.

With Drew he sees a barber every 6 weeks or so, but I do a little upkeep on it around week 3.
