Success after IF

Any one here ever work with a personal trainer?

As I sit here shoving Crumbs cupcake in my mouth...

I have lost a significant amount of weight since having D, but I am feel so flabby and gross.  I don't work out nearly as much as I used to- but even when I do- my old routine is not cutting it.

Since I am not working for the summer, I know I can hit the gym and am thinking of using a personal trainer.

Have you used one?  Did you like the suggested workouts?  DId you see results?

Thanks!

Re: Any one here ever work with a personal trainer?

  • I did for about 15 months before I got pregnant with Lucy. I was a personal trainer in college so I felt like I had good routines down, but I wanted to mix it up a bit and try some different types of workouts.  I definitely saw good results (I wasn't really looking to lose weight but I got a lot more toned!).  He pushed me to do things that I never would have been motivated to do on my own and really got me out of my "run every day and nothing else" rut.

I loved it - but I think it all depends on your trainer.  When the guy I worked with moved, his replacement just kind of sucked and I didn't feel like he was doing anything for me I couldn't do for myself.

I think you should totally go for it, though!  The summer is the perfect time! (Hmm... maybe I should look into starting up again!)

  • Before I found out I was pregnant again I was working with one and really loved it. I was seeing significant results and she even put me on a meal plan. I liked having someone there to push me. I also signed up for boot camp which was hard work but I LOVED it.

I did not comprehend anything you said in your post because I was distracted by that siggie pic.

OMG.  I am dying over the cuteness.  He is SO handsome.  Seriously.

  • I loved having a trainer!  Mine used different workouts for me each time so it didn't ever get boring, plus he worked me out using the big exercise ball and other equipment (besides machines) that I never would've known to do on my own.  I went for about 6 months before my wedding because I wanted to tone up and it was by far the best shape I've ever been in (plus it MADE me workout).  Do it!

  • I go twice a week and wouldn't trade my trainer for the world.  We focus strength training.  My lifting abilities have improved dramatically in the last year and half.  While my weight has only gone down 10lbs or so my muscle tone has gone up tones.  As odd as it sounds I  used to have insane knee pain when wearing heels, gone completely.  I love being able to lift 60lbs of garden soil, as I did this morning, without really thinking of it as heavy.

Honestly I wouldn't push myself the way my trainer pushes me. Just having someone  going ahead of me to reset the machines is fabulous.  He distracts me on machines I hate and seriously does real cheers after each exercise.  (and will clean up my puke as needed) For me it is also a forced exercise. I have an appointment to keep two days a week at 5:45am.  No way would I get up and go to the gym on my own.  I can't skip or it is tossing money down the drain.

  • I got one before our wedding to lose weight. She was worthless. I actually gained weight (and did not lose inches). She focused too much on strength which was not what works at my size/body type, I need hardcore aerobic/fat burning to shed fat before any toning/strength will help things. Best success I've ever had with weight loss exercise has been either daily 45 minute+ time on elliptical in college (but I didn't really eat then so who knows which made a bigger difference) or the Moms into Fitness DVDs which I did together with WW before getting pregnant.

  • I have worked out with a personal trainer twice a week off and on since 2006, it's the only way I will work out. I lost about 20 lbs before our wedding and then I kinda fell off the wagon, I was working out, but I wasn't eating right. I took a break from him when going through IVF, but I really got motivated in December and have lost almost 50 lbs to date. I work out with the trainer 2 times a week and then do his kickboxing classed 2 times a week and I follow a strick 1200 calorie  diet. I have never felt better, and the results have been amazing, I have gone doe 4 pant sizes- I am just in awe that I can acutally look like this.  I like the structure of having someone putting me through my workout and yelling at me- my trainer owns his own little gym- so it's not like a big gym with lots of people. Then having him teach the classes I go to helps- he still yells at me, which I need.
