XP from breastfeeding

Hello all - I'm starting to build up a freezer stash.  I have a medella pump and plan on storing in the 5 oz bags.

Question 1: Are there less expensive bags I can use?  I don't mind pumping into a bottle and then transfering to a bag for storage if it doesn't work with my pump.

Question 2: I want to pump some smaller quantities for when we start giving cereal.  I want to mix the cereal with breast milk instead of formula.  However, I don't want to thaw a full 5oz every time she has cereal and then waste a bunch. It seems to me that an ice cube sized amount would be perfect.  Is there a way to freeze smaller individual quantities and still have it be hygenic enough for baby??

TIA!

Tupperware sells ice cube trays with covers.  There are storage containers for BM that hold small amounts.  I got mine from the hospital though.

I would just freeze the milk in ice cube trays. When frozen pop them out (so you can just keep reusing the same tray) and just store the little cubes in a bag for easy access.

  • I use the Lansinoh bags - I have the Medela Freestyle pump and just transfer it from the bottle to the bag when I'm done. They're a lot cheaper than the Medela bags.
