I was thinking about bringing it just to put my several clothes choices. I have a "diaper bag" insert to place inside a purse that I got off one of those discount websites a while back. I may stick that in my packed bag with her clothes in NB and a 0-3.
I read to bring it empty and stock up on their goodies. They will give you NB diapers, pads, whatever you need that is working for you. I plan to, and put LO's outfits and blanket in there.
I'll probably have H bring it up from the car for take home day. Things never seem to pack up as easy when you are going home as when you are packing to leave so I figure having a some extra space and a place to put things that I will want my hands on as soon as I get home. We are a 45 minute drive to/from the hospital, so there is the chance I will need something during the drive.

I have coupons from similac and gerber to get a free diaper bag from the hospital. I would ask your hospital if they have any. When i had my daughter I gave them the coupon and the nurse said, oh yea we were gonna give that to you at the end of your stay, so they might anyway.
I took it with just her coming home outfit in it last time and good thing I did because the nurses LOADED me up. She was in preemie diapers and back then (6yrs ago) the only place you could buy them here was at WalMart so I left the hospital with 3 PACKS of unopened diapers, baby wash, baby lotion, Lanisoh cream, breast pads, snot sucker, 3 4 packs of the formula in the little bottles just in case my milk didn't come in, PLUS a diaper bag loaded with stuff from Similac. We also have a program through our school district called Parents as Teachers and they came by my room and gave me a bag of little gifts....a couple little board books, rattles, etc.
I NEED every inch of bag space so take it nearly empty
I was going to so that I would have something to put the little diaper gift box and such in to bring it home. I was also going to put LO's coming home outfit in there so that I didn't have to dig through my bad to find it. Mostly though I just wanted to have bag to carry home the baby stuff they will provide, since DH and I plan on just taking the smallest bag possible for the two of us.
