soo tea is bad?

I have a random craving for unsweet tea. I really need to drink more water but it makes me gag...seriously haha! I've been trying to drink a variety of juices and have even tried the Mio water enhancer, but all I want is tea. I drank a big glass at dinner...my first cup in years! I've read caffiene is a diuretic and so it dehydrates you, but then I read that you should only be worried about that with coffee. I don't know what to believe, I just want my tea. Soo, yay or nay? Do they make decaf tea? I really have no clue!

Re: soo tea is bad?

  • Yes they make decaf tea. The big thing about caffeine and pregnancy is that caffeine restricts oxygen to the placenta and can cause a miscarriage. Most Dr's will tell you that a cup a day is fine though. Personally I cut out c affine until 2nd tri.

  • I've been doing really well...I used to drink two cups of strong coffee every morning and I haven't had a single cup since my BFP. For some reason I have been wanting unsweet tea allll day, though. I gave in like a bad girl. I'll be looking for decaf tomorrow at the store.

So will it dehyrdrate me more or not? I'm sick of water haha

  • I think all caffine dehydrates you. When I was on Weight watchers they told us to drink an extra glass of water for every glass of caffeine. If you get decaf I don't think it will do anything though.

  • Awesome. I'm definitely getting some tomorrow. I don't need to be dehydrating myself more than this heat and everything else already is...

  • Yes, they make decaf tea.  I have been fulfilling the same exact craving with the Lipton decaf tea... I make it like hot tea, then pour it over a huge glass of ice. Works wonders.

That's even better and EASIER!  Just brew it over a huge glass of ice.  Enjoy.

  • I think the caffeine is what is a diruetic, not the tea itself.  But do beware because even decaf tea (and coffee) still has trace amounts of caffeine in it, so you don't want to over do it.

luckily the trace amounts don't go very far.

My OB said you can safely have 200mg or less of caffeine a day.  And that's a lot! So enjoy your tea :)  Just avoid the green tea!
