Has anyone used these before? Elijah seems to have some gas but I never really thought much of it. This week was his first week in day care. When I went to pick him up today, the day care worker told me that I needed to get baby gas drops for him because he has a lot of gas and it bothers his stomach. I'm concerned about using a product over the counter like this. Another concern I had was that she told me that all the babies there use them - it just seemed odd to me that every baby there would be on these drops. However, if the gas bothers his stomach, I don't want to not use them.
I'm just torn! Can anyone offer advice or tell me their experience using these drops? TIA
Re: Baby gas drops?
Are you talking about Mylicon? We used it some when Aubrey was younger, if she was having some gas issues. Her pedi said they were perfectly fine to use. Of course we didn't use them like everyday or anything. Little Tummy's is another brand.
Gripe Water is good for gas as well, and also try doing bicycle legs as it helps to move the gas down and out.
We had to use these for about 6 months with our DD.
We used Playtex bottles to help with the gas and would put the dose into the bottle (it will immediately pop all the air bubbles, kinda cool) and she would drink it down that way. Our pedi said you can't overdose on them and they're safe to use multiple times a day. We tried various brands and types (Gripe Water, Little Tummy's, Mylicon and it's generic) and the Mylicon/generic worked best for us. We also bicycled her legs and did lots of tummy time and football holds where she was face down and her tummy pressed into our arms and that helped a ton.
(Our DD was adopted and born addicted to a couple of things and had some GI issues because of that...I don't think it's necessarily the norm to be so gassy for so long without having some kind of actual reflux/colic issue, which we didn't have. But I think lots of babies go through a short gassy period or periods where the drops are really helpful and total safe to give to them.)
We tried Mylicon and Gripe Water with Noah. The thing that finally ended up making a difference was finding a formula that just didn't make him gassy.
