Be HONEST about my boy name...

We believe we now have our boy name. Just looking for your thoughts :)

Jonathan Wayne Lambert

How do you all feel about this?!

p.s. Wayne is my fathers name who I was very close with, he passed away after a tough battle with cancer in 2006. I was 18. I want to honor him by using that as my baby boys middle name.

Re: Be HONEST about my boy name...

  • Are you a fan of Western movies? Uh hem, John Wayne. Just making you aware in case you weren't. They are both good names though!

  • It reminds me of John Wayne like PP said. It's cool if you don't mind that. My grandpas name is James Bond Burdeaux. Bond was his mothers maiden name...
  • I love the name johnathan such a classic name

  • I agree with PP, he'll probably get some cowboy jokes growing up, but I think it's a nice name.

  • I thought about the John Wayne issue, lol. The funny part is my father was a HUGE western movie buff. He thought John Wayne was the man!

  • I do like the name and even like that westerns had meaning with your dad. There is a slim chance your son might get picked on in school because of it though. But then again...kids dont really need a reason do they ;)

  • I LOVE John Wayne.  And I love your name.

FWIW, I have a friend who has an aunt "Barbara Busch" (even though it's spelled differently, no one knows when she just says it) and an uncle "David Letterman."  I also had a manager named "John Holmes" one time...true story.  I think the "famous" names are kind of cool...even the porn star with the large, um, "instrument."Cool

  • I think it's wonderful that you are honoring your father by using his middle name-we will be doing the same thing one day when/if we have a boy.  As far as the cowboy stuff-yes, it makes me think of John Wayne a bit but I grew up on westerns and listening to country music so to me, it's no big deal. Use it!

  • It's a great name & I'll bet 99% of people who meet your son won't make the John Wayne connection, because they won't know his middle name. (No one has ever asked what my son's middle name is, since his birth.)

  • i actually didn't pick up on the john wayne thing at first.  i like classic names, so i think jonathon is a good one.

    This!

  • I love it. We're doing Jonathan Patrick, with the middle name coming from my dad for the same reason.

What's important is that YOU love it..:o)

This.  Also, his classmates will probably be too young to even know who John Wayne is.  I am okay on the name, but I love that it honors your dad and I also love that your dad was a John Wayne fan... to me it makes it even more special.

  • I watch too many forensic shows because I immediatly thought of John Wayne Gacy Stick out tongue

I do like the name.  They are all classic names.  I don't think people will make correlations to westerns or serial killers.  How often do you introduce yourself with your whole name or talk about your middle name.  I like honoring family members with the middle name.  We are doing it with both kids.

  • Jonathan is a nice, strong boy name with a good nickname. I love it and I love that you are honoring your dad! My mom died from cancer 13 years ago and we are naming our baby girl after her - and I don't care what anybody thinks about it! Who cares about the western jokes!

  • I love how it sounds and the meaning behind it.  I doubt most of his classmates will know who John Wayne is, nor will they know that his middle name is Wayne, so I wouldn't worry about it.  Definitely a keeper!
"I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I'll go to it laughing."

  • I love it.  There really aren't going to be that many little boys that know who John Wayne is - you know.  I think John is classic and love that you are honoring your dad.  Did you know that John Wayne's name wasn't really John Wayne....?

  • I love the name, John Wayne and the fact that you're honoring your father. Well done.

  • I have a friend named Jonathan (Jon) Wayne and he loves it.  He even named his dog Duke because of his name.  I think it's a great name!

however i like that you want to add your dad's name. i love, love, love family names.

ETA- i hope this didn't sound bad.. not my intentions. but i have heard that a lot about him.

  • I think it's a great name and I actually didn't think of John Wayne at all!

  • Great name!  It's always good when you're able to honor a family member, too.

I didn't think of John Wayne until I saw PPs pointing it out.  But I used to know a Jonathan Smith.  He went by "Jon", so he got the "John Smith" thing here and there, but it was no big deal.

I knew a Jonathan Smith too, and he went by 'Jon' as well :)

  • I like each of the names quite a bit.  I will say, honestly, I DID roll my eyes about the John Wayne thing when I first read it.  THen I saw your follow up about your dad loving westerns and now I think it gives it even more meaning.

Like other people have said, how often are people really going to see first and middle name together?  And if the hate it when they do, do you really care since the name has so much meaning?

I'd use it if I were you.

  • I think it is a great name my son's name is Jonathan Hunter it fits him very well
