I know in general second babies are bigger than first and that girls tend to be smaller than boys. Has anyone had a boy first then a girl? I'm trying to figure out how many outfits in the different size outfits I'll need. My DS was 7lb6oz, but dropped almost a pound that first week. So he ended up being in newborn size for about a month. This one is a girl so I'm assuming she'll be smaller? Any advice?
Re: Moms of >2 - infant size question
My first was a boy at 8lbs 13oz, and my 2nd was a girl at 8lbs 11oz.
HTH
Edited: they both lost 13oz the first week.
DD was in newborn sizes for 3 months(7lbs, 4oz at birth)-but she was my 1st and on the small side.
Most of my friends said theirs were out by a month as well.
This time I'm not getting many NB sizes as this one is a boy and I expect him to be a little bigger.
I'll spend the $$ on the bigger sizes this time!
I had my son first and he was 8lbs 3oz and my daughter was 8lbs 6oz. Both 7 days overdue.
my daughter was 6.14 at 39w4d... my son was 8.1 at 39 weeks..
Malakai - 8.3.09
Ezra - 12.1.11 ASD
My nephew who is 3 was 8 lbs. His sister who is almost 6 months was 9 lbs.
My DD was 6 lbs, so I hope this one is about the same

I agree with this. I was slightly smaller than my two younger siblings but my brother and sister weighed exactly the same (7lb9oz). My brother lost some weight and was in NB for about a month and 0-3 for another 3 months. My sister was in 3-6 months by her second week. For my MIL, DH (the oldest) was her largest and grew the quickest. I think different babies just grow differently even though they will (more than likely) be from the same parents and on the same diet.
My first was a 10lb boy, my 2nd was a 7lb 14oz girl. However, a girl in my playgroup had a 8lb DS first, then an 10lb DD second. You can never predict baby size.
Stock up on mostly 0-3 and just grab a few NB outfits. I had a small baby and little newborn clothes but plenty of those 0-3 nightgowns that work well, especially with the frequent diaper changes you do in the beginning. Your 2nd might be smaller, she might not be. If your DD ends up being small and needs to be in NB for a while, you can always go back and buy newborn clothes after she arrives.
