2nd Trimester

Feeling weak....any ideas on what this might be?

I have been feeling weak on and off for the past couple of weeks.  This morning I woke up and was very weak and kind of light headed.  I even had to sit on the floor to do my make up b/c I did not want to stand up.  I thought it was just b/c I needed to eat something.

So I had my usual bowl of cereal and took my prenatal.  Still felt strange.  So after laying down for about 15 minutes, I sat up and decdied to text my boss and let her know I'd be in late.  Right after I texted her, I felt like I was going to throw up.  And I did.  So I laid back down for about an hour.

I was able to get up and get ready for work and ate an egg burrito.  So here I am at work.  But I still feel weak and light headed....just not normal.  I know I don't have a bug...this is different.  Definitely feels pregnancy-related.

I'm trying to figure out if it's just a normal part of pregnancy or if I need to call my midwife.  Thoughts?

  • For months I have been fighting weakness in the morning.  I have a jar of peanut butter on my bedside table, and I have a spoonful before I get out of bed.  I have found that this helps jump-start my energy after sleep-time fasting.

The difference with you is that, even after you eat something, you still feel weak. I'd call your midwife to be sure.

Good luck.  I hope you feel better!

  • Sounds like low iron. If it keeps up, call your OB and get the go ahead to take an iron supplement. I felt like some one slipped me a valium when I had it.

Ditto.  This is my 3rd low iron pregnancy and this is what it sounds like to me to.  Call your OB!

This. My last pregnancy I was super low on iron and this is about what I felt. I hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like iron to me too, but could be vitamin b.  I had low vitamin b and once I found out and started taking a supplement, I had SO much more energy.  I thought it was just normal pregnancy stuff, but it wasn't.  I would talk to your dr.
  • Your blood pressure may be low. I get really weak and dizzy but its usually due to being dehyrated.

  • I feel like this everyday!  I thought it was normal pregnancy stuff but apparently I will be talking to my doctor about it soon.

  • I had this weak feeling too and also told my doctor- "totally normal" :( ... when pregnant, your blood sugar, blood pressure, and heartbeat all changes, these normally cause such feelings. I sit on the floor to do my hair and makeup everyday, I even have a bench in the shower! ... Make sure when getting out of bed you don't jump up, take your time and take a few deep breaths. I normally try to wake up about 15-20 mins earlier so that I get up once, normally go the the bathroom, and then come back to bed and lay down for a few more minutes. Weekends are great when alarm clocks dont matter! :)

  • I get horrible weakness sometimes, like my legs aren't strong enough for me to walk weakness. And it's actually because my sodium tanks out.  Since I've been trying to cut back to help stay hydrated and I'd been outside and sweating and using up tons of it that when I tanked, it tanked bad. And it takes a long time to get back up. Try drinking some gatorade, it has sodium as well as sugar and fluids.
