Babies: 3 - 6 Months

"interesting" post on 3rd Tri.

Someone over there posted that they are in a wedding, 5 hours away 2 weeks after their due date!  Personally I think this is crazy.  I wouldn't have even considered it.  We had our immediate family over for a few hours on Christmas when ds was a bit over two weeks and I was EXHAUSTED!  She's getting upset at people telling her this.  What's your take?

  • That is nuts.  I would not have done it, even if I was not going through what I did.  At the 2 week mark I was back in the hospital with a uterine infection.

  • I wouldn't of known before how terrible I still would of been feeling and that I would not be able to sit.  I would of said yes and ended up canceling later.

There's no way. My best friend got engaged on my birthday last summer, and chose my due date as her wedding date. She knew I was pregnant, knew that was my due date but didn't really care. THEN asked my fiance to be an usher in the wedding. Luckily, I went into labor the wednesday before so we didn't have to waste money on a tux.

  • DS was 13 days overdue, so not a chance in hell.
  • If she makes it, she'll be one mess of a bridesmaid.  I hope the bride is either really understanding or has a plan B.

  • Biitch be crazy! I think she is completely naive if she thinks she can participate in a wedding with a freshly hatched bambino on the boob.

I maybe could have done it at 4 weeks, but 2? uh uh. no way. not happening. no bueno.

  • My brother and SIL were due with their first I think 3 weeks before they were supposed to hop a 5 hour flight to attend a wedding.  I thought they were nuts, and they were just planning on attending, not being in the wedding party.  (Their DD came 4 weeks early, so now it seems much more reasonable, but at the time I was thinking no way in he!! would I want to sit on a plane that soon after having a baby).

  • I was exactly two weeks overdue so if I would have agreed to something like that it would have been very awkward.

  • I had a c section and still had a hard time walking 2 weeks pp. Some women might be fine but there is no way I could have done it.

  • I felt okay at 2 weeks PP, but I couldn't stand/walk for a long time without feeling like my vag was falling off or something was coming out of it.  Not to mention the diaper size pads I was wearing...that would look super sexy in a bridesmaids dress.

  • I had 3 c-sections. The first was by far the worst so there was noooo way I would be able to feel/look human enough to attend OR be in a wedding 2 weeks after my due date. (I went over with #1.) BUT, I know other people who had perfect, easy deliveries and were back up and at 'em so quickly it made my head spin.
  • I would have been fine to be in a wedding 2 weeks pp as long as the dress wasn't too tight and I could sit some after the ceremony.  Most ceremonies I go to last at the most 30 min then during the reception you mingle, sit and stand, maybe dance.
  • No effing way. My LO was a week late. Add to that 2 nights in the hospital. So that would have put me at 5 days after being discharged having to be in an OOT wedding?

    Hellz the eff no.

  • I had a c-section so I wouldn't have even be released to drive until the day of the wedding. NO way would I have been a bridesmaid. I would have been lucky to even go to the wedding.

  • I probably would not be in it but I would still go to a wedding.

  • Um I could barely get myself showered and out of my PJs at 2 weeks PP, no way in hell would I be traveling 5 hours to dress all fancy for a wedding.

  • I didn't even feel human again until around 10 weeks, but my situation isn't the norm either. (BUT, it was a lesson in "you never know what can happen" - pre-e, emergency c-section, DD in NICU for 2 weeks.) My recovery didn't even BEGIN until DD came home from the NICU.

  • Better her than me. 2 weeks postpardum I was a hormonal mess and already on Antidepressants for a week. But, to each her own!

  • I could have done it, if all I had to do was show up and look decent. If I had to do much more than that I would have had a hard time. I would have agreed to it if the friend was willing to be flexible and understanding.

The big problem is that you have NO idea beforehand how you will feel 2 weeks after your due date. You could be still pregnant or you could have a 4+ week old baby or you could have a baby still in the NICU. You could feel back to normal and fit in your pre-preg clothes or you could be leaking/bleeding from multiple places and miserable. You just never know.

I think a big part of her situation is that it's 5 hours away...which with a newborn is probably more like a 7-8 hour trip to account for nursing. I know when DS was 2 weeks old driving the 10 minutes to the Pedi's office was nerve-wracking enough!

  • I personally think it is crazy.  I didn't read the OP, so I don't know how far along she is, but she could go early and baby could be in NICU, she could go late....

I had my 2nd LO at 41w1d by emergency c-section and didn't get out of the hospiatl until 2 days later... if she is planning a trip 2 weeks after her due date, that would have been 4 days after I was d/c.  I couldn't even sleep in my own bed at that point because I was too sore to climb up there with DS in my arms.

  • My BFF set the date a month in advance... I declined "just in case because you never know" and the last thing I would have wanted to do would be to stress her out if it came down to an emergency.

Call it premonition or whatever... DS came 6 weeks early and I was soooo sick. It killed me not being there but I was at peace that it didn't cause drama.
