Boston Babies

Daycare question

Hi ladies!  I am new around here but I used the Boston knot a lot while I was wedding planning.  DH and I are starting to think about TTC next year and we want to make sure we are financially prepared.  I was wondering how much you pay for daycare, if you don't mind sharing.  I have done the whole "average cost" google search, but my guess is that it differs depending on if you're in the suburbs or the city.  We're in the Merrimack Valley, if that helps.  Just trying to get an idea of how much we can expect to spend.  Thanks in advance!

Re: Daycare question

  • Between DS 4 years ago and #2 starting in Jan '12, we paid $250-275/wk for 5 full-time days in an in-home daycare.  We just priced out a bunch of places...most in-home daycare places ran $225-275/wk or $50-55/day for part-time.  I don't think I've ever found a center-based daycare under $300/wk.  Average seems to be $325-375/wk for 5 full-time days.  We were looking in the Braintree/Weymouth area, if that helps to know.  GL!

  • Hi there -- we're in metrowest, more on the southern end (Franklin area), and priced out 3 centers, as we're looking for 3 days per week care, for twins starting in November.  (All 6 of the in-home centers I spoke with could not take on two infants this fall -- as they can only have two and most already have one, if not two, under their care).

KinderCare is $1900/month for 2 infants for 3 days per week (offered most with flexibility for changing days, or adding days in; also offered to help get the munchkins in/out of the car, which no one else offered to do).

The Goddard School is $1850 for the same (hours are slightly less and they do not offer the flexibility of changing days, if needed.)

Bright Horizons is $1750 for the same, but it was only based on 9 hours per day, and you'd pay for each additional half hour.  It ended up being more than KinderCare.
