I've NEVER been much of a runner, okay I've never been a runner at all, even as a kid I dreaded the day we had to run the mile in PE and I only ever barely passed. But now, I've started getting into triathlons and I do well on the swim and bike but my run is still horrible! So I started Couch to 5K this week and I'm trying to turn myself into a runner. Any advice for me? Thanks!
Re: Trying to Turn Myself into a Runner
As I was never a runner, my trainer explained how important form is. She stated it helps with performance if your form (chest out, back straight, head forward, etc..) isn't compromising any oxygen intake. Does this make sense?
Also, at the beginning don't be worried about speed or distance. Just run at a pace where you can actually carry a conversation without being winded. Walk, running in the beginning is also good too - stop and walk in order to get your heart rate back down. These 2 things alone helped me out tremendously. Good luck.
What really made me love running was signing up for road races. I love the excitement and camaraderie. Since you do triathlons- you might enjoy a 5 or 10k race.
c25k is a great program... don't be tempted to skip weeks... build up slowly or you might burn out or hurt yourself.
Running with someone is great too... if you can keep up a conversation it passes the time and helps you make sure you aren't going to fast to quickly.
Good for you! I always tell myself I could never do it but IF I COULD....I would love it I think. I can see myself getting addicted to it plus the sick bod you'll have. What about knee injuries? That always scares me. It's free, you can do it anywhere, anytime!
I have tried the walk/run every telephone pole!
