So I went to turn the sprinkler on this afternoon and was hit in the face HARD by the stench of dog poo. It was offensive. DH is the pooper scooper- always has been- but for some reason I can't figure out his logic (or lack thereof). As it lay there in a shopping bag on this 100 degree day, I couldn't help but wonder there's got to be a better way. So, what do you store your dog poo in? Something's gotta give- we need a tight fitting lid...especially for the warm weather months. I'm thinking like a miniature Oscar the Grouch trash can with a lid.
Re: NBR: dog owners come in
You have to store your dog poop? What is the reason behind that?
We are lucky in that we have enough land that our dog foes into the weeds out of our landscaped lawn so we donot have to worry about scooping. We do have cats though and when that gets cleaned it just goes straight into the garbage can.
Welp, for lack of better terms, yes we store it. We keep our garbage cans in the garage and because our trash is only picked up weekly, tossing the poo directly into the cans is not an option. DH fills a bag in the backyard and just dumps into the trash on trash day. Make sense?
This is exactly what we do and then transfer to the big bin on garbage days. It works well for us!
We obviously have experience with this lol. We used the doggie dooley for a little bit. It didn't help that DH ran over it with the lawn mower and broke the lid
He has also been leaving the poo in a plastic bag, lying on the patio, baking in the sun. Makes me want to vomit.
I was going to get a metal trash can with a lid. That is what my mom uses also. And btw, even if you did compost your doggie poo...you can't use it as fertilizer in a food garden, just a flower garden. No eating it!
I'm bad. I have no idea why, but I am the pooper scooper here. DH will do it, only if I ask him more than once to. With DD and other house chores, I only get to it once a week. With this hot weather, it literally bakes the poo. By the time I get to it, it is dry, I bag it up, and it doesn't stink.
The downside: I have two dogs, and a small yard. A weeks worth of poo is a lot!
But if you are not into the lazy dog poo idea, I would say a mini lided trashcan may not be a bad idea - or you can take out your kitchen trash bag and put it in there and take it out to your big outside can if you have one. I'll do that on occasion.
Come on Sticky baby!!

Great ideas, thanks! I especially like the diaper genie one
I'm going to look into the composting as well as the the doggie dooley.
I love all these ideas. We have two dogs and dog poop has always been an issue.
How are you guys going to handle your LOs in your backyard when they are mobile? I am worried about the dog poop even after we pick it up. Maybe this is something that I am worried about but isn't really an issue...
We have one of the big Home Depot buckets with a lid, with the wire handle.
We pick up the poop with a shopping bag, put it in there (it's in the back corner of the yard, in the shade) and it stays there until trash day.
