I work full time, DH is a SAHD M, T, W. MIL offered to watch DS on Th & F because she wanted to be able to spend some more time with him. I agreed because I thought it would be better for him to be with someone who loves him than in daycare.
Yesterday, MIL texts me and asks if it's OK to take DS swimming. I called her and said sure, and told her where his swim shirt (long sleeved) & trunks & swim diaper were, and the whole schpiel about how he's too young for sunscreen so please make sure he's covered up.
When I got home, she told me that the swim shirt didn't fit so she just had him in the pool in a onsie. Well, it was short sleeved, and now his arms are sunburnt.
And the swim shirt? It fits. It's snug, because it's supposed to be.She also didn't even bother taking his swim trunks with her (not really a big deal; I know he doesn't actually need them, but it's the fact that she just ignored me).
I'm so pissed. Skin cancer runs in my family, which she knows.
This is not the first time she's just blatantly ignored things we've told her or fukked up (like the time she didn't change his diaper for 10 hours). So I'm done. It's going to start WW3 with my inlaws but that's just too flippin' bad.
Re: That pretty much solidified my decision to send DS to daycare.
Wow oh wow. I'd be P-I-S-S-E-D. And 10 hours without a diaper change???? Just blows my mind. What. The. F***. Sounds like your decision is the right one.
6 months. He's not quite there yet.
Sunblock (there is a difference) is fine for babies, even under 6 months. I didn't know this either until the bump told me when my first son was a baby.
Ah yes, you're right; I use the words interchangably.
Our ped said neither until 6 months though, so we haven't even bought any yet.
But I'd be willing to bet she'd forget to put any on him. She's from the era of baby oil and foil reflective sun thingers (yes that's the technical term!).
couple of things: i'd be pisssssssssed bc i am paranoid about ds getting burnt!
2) where did you find your long sleeved rashguard????
3) no diaper change in 10 hours is absurd.
4) i am soooooo jealous your son is named asher. i wanted asher sooooo bad but dh vetoed it!

Target! I think it was like $7 or $8 and on an endcap, not with the regular clothing racks. Totally worth it.
And thanks!
We debated over names for-ever. And one day this name just came out of the blue and we both said, "Perfect!"
My little man at 0-1-2
DS has a long sleeved one too... I figure when he's in the water it is cooling him off. People actually recommend wearing long pants/long sleeves (for grownups) in the summer to keep the sun off your skin and keep you cool.
OP: We need to start a group for people with shiitty MILs who don't listen to the baby momma. My MIL apparently thinks that she is so great she deserves to raise 2 generations of boys. UGH. She had her turn, now I get to raise my baby in the manner that I believe is best.
What a PP said- he's cool in the water but we keep an eye on him.
And yes, I'd like to start a "Shoddy MIL's Club."
OMG jealous...I've been on the hunt for a long time! I saw them at Target but they only had smalls.
Ugh! What an idiot! That sounds like something my MIL would do. And no diaper change for 10 hours? WTF?!?!
On a side note... please tell me you have the blue swim shirt! I just think it would be too cute if our little Ashers had the same swim clothes. haha!
