I am thinking about purchasing a reading device ( a completion of my Masters present, and my husband just bought Bose headphones)
Any thoughts on the two devices?? I know the Nook is in color and you can get magazines, but navigating and basic design?? Library???
Re: NBR A Kindle or a Nook??
I love my nook! I have the black and white one and my mom has the color one which she loves. And it's nice that you can trade some books and borrow ebooks from the library, though by me they tend to not have the most recent books (so I buy those).
Good luck!
You can get magazines on the Kindle too, they just aren't color. I have friends with the color Nook and they have a glare on their screen that is not present with my Kindle.
I love my Kindle and would highly recommend it!
I have the Nook Color, and I don't find this to be annoying at all, and rarely do I accidently touch the screen.
So with that said, LOVE my Nook Color. You can download certain magazines, play Angry Birds, and like PP said, download children's books and the Nook will read it, or you can read it to your child. Only downfall is that it's extremely difficult to read outside in the sun. I read inside 99% of the time so that's not an issue for me.
I have a Nook Color and I love it! It is really a cross between an e-reader and a tablet. I surf the web on it probably more than I actually read books on it. The nice thing about the Nook is that it can read all types of book formats and you can easily download books from the B&N store or check them out from libraries. You don't have to worry about having the right file format like you do with the Kindle.
If you truly just want an e-reader, a b&w Nook or a Kindle might make more sense, but the Nook Color is really fun.
I have a kindle and love it. There are tons of free books on amazon - new ones almost daily. I have over 300 free books - that aren't the older classics - all newer books or self-published authors. The color Nook is backlit - so you do get some eye fatigue looking at a backlit screen [like a computer].
The other thing to think about is that Barnes and Nobles isn't completely secure financially so they could go under like Borders did. I doubt amazon is going anywhere anytime soon, so I feel confident that I will always have my books available [the books you buy through amazon.com are automatically backed up there].
I don't think there will be a color kindle available anytime soon unless the eink technology advances. But I personally just wanted it to read books and it does that beautifully. I don't play games or surf the web on it - but I have my laptop for that.
You could also look at the kindle forum on amazon - there is always lots of advice on it and there are frequently posts of people comparing the 2. As well as using the kindle app on other devices, like the ipad.
I have the Nook Color and I love it. I read books, magazines, surf the web, listen to Pandora, store pics on it, put books for my son on it and more. It's more like a mini iPad than just an e-reader. You can adjust the brightness of the screen-- when I adjust it, I haven't had any trouble using it outside.
This is not exactly true-- it can read several different formats, but not all. There is a free program called Cailbre you can download which converts e-book files into different file formats-- so you can take a Kindle book and format it for the Nook.
One other thing to note about the Nook-- it allows you to highlight passages & make notes. It's not a feature I use, but my friend is in grad school and she uses it all of the time.
