c-sections mamas-come in

So, I have been to see my OB since 3 weeks pp and I'm almost 10 now. At 3 weeks I was told I could start walking and 6 weeks running...and I had to wait 16 weeks before I could do any ab excercises. Well, I know that next week starts this boot camp class that I was taking before I go pg and I really want to go back, we did, running, weights, pushups, step ups, sit ups.

I don't have any pain, I've been lifting things, walking and I don't have any pain.

Would you wait the whole 16 weeks like they said or would you listen to your body and return and if you find that there are things that you can't do then just don't do them or see if you can change them to make them easier on you?? TIA!!

  • My dr gave me the ok before then, but if my dr said not until 16 wks, then I would wait.  If you are not sure, maybe call your OB/GYN to double check?  You don't want to risk an injury

  • Wait!  I had 2 c-sections and recovered so easily.  I was on tylenol day 2 and released early from the hospital.  I followed the workout rules to a tee even though I felt fine bc my doc explained that internal injuries could happen even if I was feeling 100% and if you get an internal tear or something, your recovery time will be set back.
  • 16 weeks is a really long time.  Why not ask your doc WHY the rec?

  • I was back to teaching aerobics at 7 weeks post partum after a c section and being on complete bedrest for my last trimester.  I certainly was not at my pre-baby pace but I was able to do my classes.  I was back to the gym at 6 weeks post baby.   My doctor never told me to wait 16 weeks.  I did modify things for some time though....I slowly worked into weights and abs or things where my body was unsupported.  It took me a few months to not feel weak or strange in the torso area due to the c-section.  I would certainly listen to what your dr said and as you ease into things listen to your body - always.  Everyone is different and it takes some people less or more time to get their strength back.  You will get there!
