First off, congrats on your newest addition!!
I thought this would be the right place to ask this question....
With everyone wanting to see the baby after birth, about how long does it take to deliver the placenta, get cleaned up, possibly breast feed etc. (and look decent enough considering the cirsumstances) for visitors to come in?
I know our families are going to be pacing the hallways and I want to give them a heads-up on wait time.
Thanks!
Re: Experienced Mamas Come In
I had a 20hr labor that was sorta rough and lost a lot of blood, had a lot of stitches, etc. It took about 3 hours to go from the delivery room, to the room we stayed in. I did not have visitors that night, nor did I want them, I was so exhausted and just wanted to sleep! I think it's really hard to answer for you because your delivery will go completely different than mine. I'm sure you'll just know when you're ready for visitors!
GL and hope you have a wonderful delivery!
DD1 was born at 10am and i had visitors around 2pm
DD2 was born at 7pm and we asked people to wait until the next morning.
We just wanted to have some time with LO before everyone was around. I also passed out when I first stood up, so I was not able to shower or even get out of bed the whole first day. I looked pretty bad... but did not care

I agree with PP. It is going to depend on tons of stuff. I had an epi with baby # 1, and couldn't stand up for the rest of the day (DS was born at 4 pm), so there was no showering that day! I also had a 3rd degree tear, so it took a while to get me all stitched up and such.
With baby # 2, she was born at 4 am and I didn't have an epi, so I was ready to roll by 7 am!
Sorry there is no good answer to this! Just make sure they aren't rushing you. If this is your first child, this moment of you, your DH, and your first baby is truly incredible! Take as long as you want with it. Who cares if they are pacing the hallways forever!
I had my LO at 4:59 pm with an epi and was able to get up and take a shower around 6:30. My parents and sister stopped by to visit around 7:30 and left by 7:50 so that we could have more family time to bond. They wanted to meet our DD, but knew we wanted time. It was much nicer to visit with people the following day.
while they were cleaining her up the placenta was delivered and I was stitched. They finished all of her cleaning, footprints, ankle bands etc and gave her to me again within about 20 min. They may have finished up the stitches while I was holding her. I did not BF immediately and the people we wanted to see her right away came in then after the stitching. I would say about 30-40 minutes after she was born?? If I had BF right away I think it would have been closer to an hour or more...It was just the Grandparents...other guests came way later in the afternoon.
We were in our actual post partum room within an hour and a half..this is when everyone left and I slept.

I delivered the placenta and was stitched up within 45 minutes and my mom came in the L&D room while I nursed the baby and then they came and did the weight/PKU/etc. I was probably about 2.5 hours before I was in a PP room though- they wanted me to eat and get up and use the bathroom, etc. before the moved me. Plus, LO was born at 3am.
Honestly though, I would seek out someone who delivered at your hospital or ask your OB/MW. It really depends on the hospital and the delivery.

LO was born at 403pm and we had our first visitor, my mom a little after 5. We told our family that we wanted 1 hour to ourselves as a family before anyone could come in. Honestly that hour went to fast and I cannot imagine having any less time. I have no complications, so it took an hour to give me 2 stitches, get cleaned up, LO to get cleaned up, and for me to breastfeed. Allow yourself as much time as you want, just tell the family before hand what you want. Good luck!
LO was born at 8:45 pm, my mom and sister left around 9:30 to give us our alone time. Pretty much about 15 minutes after my doctor finished stitching me up. By the time we got moved it was 10:30 ish I think.
Anyway, I could have had visitors about 30-45 minutes after if I wanted. But it being so late and all...
I never held you, but I always loved you.

I had a very quick delivery of baby. Not much stitching had to be done - although I had some seeping where I tore from DD's birth that they were having trouble stopping.
DS was born at 4:50pm. My mom, MIL, and DD were back in the room by 6:30. My dad arrived about 7pm ( he was in Huston for work and had to fly in from there and came straight from the airport). Everyone was gone by 8pm. Those were the only visitors we had that day.
With DD I had to have emergency surgery after she was born because I was hemorrhaging. She was born at 3:50 and no one was allowed in the room until almost 7pm. It was both my parents, both my IL's and my grandparent. They all only stayed about 30 minutes according to DH. I was out of it and do not remember anything from the first 3-4 days after her birth.
Well, my baby was whisked away to the NICU so people could have come to see her pretty quickly.
It took about an hour for me to deliver the placenta and be stitched up (2 stitches.)
It took 45 minutes for my doctor to do my stitches (from tears) and I had to stay flat for around 30 minutes after that. I got to see LO and BF, then LO was taken to the nursery for evaluation, which took an hour, while they stabilized my blood pressure. I think it was about 3 hours before LO and I were both in my post partum room, but I just wanted some time alone with her and DH before other visitors came in.
