Super Douche strikes again

I will try to make this as short as possible...

So last night I get an email from PG&E with my bill.  This is the same email I get every month because I'm on electronic billing.  The only difference is that this particular bill is to the tune of $6,300!!!

I figured it must have been a mistake so I called PG&E this morning.  It was not a mistake.  Apparently I neglected to put the PG&E bill in my name only (like an idiot, obviously, it slipped my mind and my email is always address to "dear valuable customer" rather than SD), so SD's name is still on the account.  He had an outstanding bill from PG&E at the place where he was living after we separated for the $6,300.  When they couldn't collect from him they looked for other accounts with his name on it and found the account for MY house.

PG&E said that I am liable for the money, but GOOD NEWS, I can pay it off over 12 months.  I told them I wasn't paying the bill and that we had been legally separated for 2 years and legally divorced for one year.  They insisted that because his name was on my account, I am liable.  I am freaking out but hoping that they are just trying to get money from somewhere and will back down.  I have a call into my lawyer and I also called SD to let him have a piece of my mind and to tell him to call PG&E to get this mess straightened out.  Hopefully I will get some satisfaction soon.

Now, because of the outstanding bill, I cannot even get my name off of the account and opened up in a separate account.  I'm very worried about my credit as well.  I sincerely hate him with every fiber of my being.

  • Ouch!  Hope your lawyer has good news and you don't end up being liable for that amount.  Good luck!

  • That is horrific :(  I am totally confident that your lawyer will be able to solve this for you as the charges were incurred on a separate account that you had nothing to do with- don't let them bully you and don't make any payments on it until you get resolution with your lawyer. Hang in there!
  • How did they not shut off service at the $500 behind mark?  My power company shuts off the power at 3 months behind in payments.

Plus did he  have GROW lights hooked up?  How the heck did he use that much power?

  • Wow, I hope it gets straightened out quick!

  • OMG. What is PG&E? Electricity? How on earth was his bill so high? I didn't know utility companies would let you run up that much of a balance.

STBXH had his gas shut off because his payments were being inadvertently applied to my account at my new house somehow. I never noticed because I am on the budget plan so I just pay the same every month regardless. Anyway, they shut it off after he was two months behind, which was only like $400.

Ugh, I hope you get this resolved quickly.

Yes, I believe he did....this was power for ONE month apparently.  I've been on and off the phone with him about this all day and he *swears* he'll take care of it.  I have zero confidence that he will and want my name cleared of being associated with this astronomical bill.

My lawyer cannot call me back soon enough.

  • Maybe if you tell him, if he shows you a paid receipt and the closed account, You'll let him have a shot :::insert shimmy here:::  at  "us" again.  Then after he pays and say you changed your mind there really is no us.

Devil but I'm evil and manipulative like that

  • Maybe you can bribe him a photo where you photoshop him and P together so he can look like father of the year use it on his Facebook and match profile without everyone seeing his thumb holding the printed photo to the web cam

  • I would check on your state's statute of limitations for utility companies to collect. I had a similar experience with an ex-boyfriend years ago, but I found out that because the debt was more than a year old and there had been no previous attempt to reach ME to collect on it, that they couldn't come after me for it. In my case it was $1200, not $6300, but still.

    Good luck!

  • That is just crazy. How can you be held responsible for an account your name wasn't on?

I hope that you heard back from your lawyer and it was straightened out.

So love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living."
