Cloth Diapering

Recommend a basic, simple fitted! (for prefold loving lurker:))

Hey all!  I am a lurker who has cloth diapered my 16 month old little girl since she was 8 weeks old.  We use prefolds and covers 99% of the time, but have a couple pockets (I made some from the KCK pattern) and one wool cover we use sometimes at night.

I am interested in getting some good fitteds for nighttime use (she has started to sleep longer and wake up much wetter!) but I don't really know where to invest my money, and what kinds of covers would work best.

I have never used a fitted so I'm not devoted enough to worry about prints and stuff yet, so what is a good, basic, absorbent fitted to start out with?  (LO is pretty skinny and little fyi)  Also, do you ladies always use wool over fitteds or can PUL covers work, too?  (I have a mish mash of thirsties, tiny tush, etc...)

Thanks so much, I love your board!!

  • You could try some Thirsties Fab Fitteds.  They are commercially made and relatively easy to find at major diaper stores (CottonBabies, Kellys Closet, Jillians Drawers, etc.)  Adding a hemp doubler would really help with absorbancy overnight. PUL covers work well with fitteds.

  • Sbish! The snapless would be most like a prefold, if you like that, and the snapped are awesome as well!

And wool is awesome for overnight covering! :)

I would definitely not recommend Thirsties for night time. They aren't very absorbent, even with a hemp doubler.

I recommend SBish (Sustainablebabyish) fitteds. I love both the snapless multis, and the snapped sized fitteds.

You can find them at several online CD retailers or on their website: https://sloomb.com/

FYI - A lot of the items on their site are preorder items so there is a wait. If you need it sooner, I would try the list of retailers they have to see who has some in stock, or I would email her and see if she has any in stock available to ship right away.

ETA: You can use PUL or wool over your fitteds. I have both but I tend to prefer wool lately, especially for nights.

  • I agree with PPs on recommending the sustainablebabyish fitteds. We have the snapless multi - which you might like because there are no snaps pressed against baby, you can use a snappi to close it and they are made of natural fibers. They are also very adjustable and the outer is soft and stretchy. You can add an extra doubler with no problem if you need to. We use a stay dry topped hemp doubler for night time in the sbish snapless.

You can use a PUL cover, lots of mamas do. We always use wool at night. If you do invest in a wool cover I would recommend trying a Wild Child Woolies - even if you get one and let it air out all day it would be worth it! They are amazing!

ETA: If you do feel like stalking (prints aside) lots of mamas love twinkie tush for overnight. They are very well made and absorbent :)

  • Thanks so much ladies!  I will look into the Sbish fitteds---I have seen that name around a lot, but your rec's are helpful in weeding through all the brands/styles, etc! This sounds like exactly what I'm looking for!

Thanks for the rec on wild child woolies, too---I really love the one wool cover I have (stacinator wool cover with snaps by tiny tush) but all the choices of etsy sellers, etc are overwhelming!

Good to know my PUL will work too---I guess I was thinking the fitteds might be too fluffy for them?  I dunno :)  But I think wool and fitteds would be the comfiest for nighttime anyways!

    Thank you so much!!

Two ?'s if you come back here: 1)  What stay dry topped hemp doubler do you use?  I have two hemp doublers I like for their absorbancy, but I have never done anything stay dry-- but I would love to try it!

    2)  Where do you stalk Twinkie Tush?  Is this an etsy seller?
  • I'm not a huge fan of the sized/snapped sbish and haven't used the one size (though I want to), but I recently got a monkey snuggles overnight that is absolutely amazing and readily available. The mom that makes them has great custer service and super quick shipping. If you're looking for an overnight solution, I highly suggest checking them out!
