Ultrasound too early?

By my calculations I'm 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Due to some spotting, I had an ultrasound at 3.5 weeks and again today. They couldn't see any sign of a baby on either. Is it just too early?

My OBGYN has freaked me out about ectopic/miscarriage possibility because of the bleeding. But so far nothing to indicate either, by hcg has been going up. I'll talk to him tomorrow about the ultrasound results, but right now I'm just annoyed and concerned.

    Yes, definitely too early to see anything except a gestational sac and maybe a yolk sac.  They should have been able to locate the gestational sac and determine that it was in the correct location (i.e. not ectopic).  Other than that, the baby is about the size of a grain of rice, so simply too tiny to see.

    n&bcarlson The technician didn't mention seeing a yolk sac, nada. I do have a ridiculously tilted uterus and the whole procedure was a pain, literally.

    The tech's are not suppose to tell you anything they see. At least that has always been my experience. They always smiled at me when I would go.

    At 3.5 they would maybe just see thickening of the uterine lining. I would think the gestational sac would appear by 5 weeks, but I could be wrong. If your hcg is doubling then I'm sure everything is just fine :)

    This is me exactly!! I got a BFP on the 28 of May. Went to the doc the next week (last wed) 1st Beta 153,(last Fri) 2nd Beta (48 hrs later) 435. Was still concerned about mild brown spotting since I am going out of town for the week and called the doc and they got me in for a US. According to my LBP I am 5w5d...but the US just showed a gestational sac. That is all. No yolk sac, no baby. Just a sac. I was concerned, but the doc said that I am right on track with my hcg levels and to come back on the 21st of June and I would see a HB. I felt much better. They also did another beta today but I wont know what that is till next week. I guess I just ovulated late...which means I got a BFP WAY early. Like 7-9 days after conception. Crazy! It is great that we can find these things out early, but almost too early. The waiting is tough! Good Luck and keep us posted. I am sure all is fine and you are in the same boat as me, just too early.
