LOL - "Winning" Nanny Applicants

Stil can't decide between nanny and daycare for my girls. Looking through some nanny profiles/applicants and here's some real winners..

"I also have a 3 year old son but he does not live with me."

"I love to watch Disney movies, so I have no problem watching them repeatedly!"

"I loved babysitting so I wouldn't mind giving this a try."

The thought of all the crazies out there makes me want to give up hope for a good nanny!

  • yeah, but on the other hand, I think we hear way more DC problems on this board than nanny ones. I'm sure there are just less people with nannies, but either way, you will run into something!

There are still plenty of good nannies out there, you'll always have to sift through the bad applicants for anything!

  • When asked the question, "How would you work to console a crying infant?" one candidate I interviewed answered with, "I hear those Baby Einstein DVDs are pretty good."

I agree! It's just such a weighted decision. It's not like I'm hiring them to mow my grass or clean my house. It's no big deal if those jobs get messed up. I'm entrusting them with the life of my babies. What if I pick the wrong one? I know I know, I'm being dramatic, just depressed about trying to find decent nannies today :)

  • How about "Um, like yeah, so I want to be a teacher, like, and, um, I'm in college right now for that, and, like I'm in a really hard class, like, and last week I had a really hard test and I forgot my ADHD medication, so it like was really hard."

I was trying to be open minded about interviewing a male nanny even though DH was completely against it.  He sounded like a valleygirl!

  • I had someone contact me via Care.com saying that that she wanted to be our nanny and that she was homeless so she also wanted to live with us.

  • Ha ha. We interviewed probably 8 or so nannies so got a bunch of crazy applications. My favorite included a note that said "I am a smoker, but I try and not smoke around the children."

Well, jeez. As long as you **try** and not smoke in front of my infant, it's all good.

I have seen this one before, why would i let you watch my kid when you can't take care of your own?  I am sure you will find someone great after all the sifting.

  • I seriously LOL reading about some of these candidates!  I actually don't have any crazy stories and we found 2 great nannies on care.com.  I got plenty of "I used to babysit for my little brother when I was 13..." but that's about it.
