Can you spare a few good thoughts or prayers? A little long...

My mom called me at 6:30 yesterday morning telling me that her husband was in the hospital and that his heart had stopped (was gone for 2 minutes) but they got him back. He seemed to be doing ok, was awake and joking that the last thing he remembers was falling asleep and then waking up with 10 people on top of him with the paddles in their hands.

Apparently Tuesday night he wasn't feeling well at all, having chest pains. They called EMS and they came out, hooked him up to something and immediately told him that he was not having a heart attack but that they were taking him to the hospital to be checked out anyways. Things checked out at the hospital, his heart was strong and fine but he was somewhat dehydrated so the hospital was going to keep him overnight. All regular rooms were full so they put him in a room in the critical care unit. Protocal there was for him to be hooked up to the heart monitors. My mom went home around 3:30 am thinking that everything was fine and to get some sleep. She got a call from the hospital at 5:30 saying that his heart had stopped and they got him back. Had he not been in that room on those monitors he would have just been found dead.

Doctors did determine yesterday that he had in fact had a heart attack sometime in the past few days and is messed up the rhythm of his heart. They did a heart cath on him yesterday to try and determine if there were other problems. They decided to put a stint in his heart and evedently they weren't able to put one in because his arteries were too clogged. They decided that they were going to send him to another hospital this morning to do a procedure to unclog his arteries in order to do the stint.

My mom called me this morning to tell me that the doctors decided not to send him to the other hospital but that they were going to keep him at this hospital until Monday for monitoring and then send him home and do the procedure in a few weeks (what?why wait?). Not 5 minutes after that conversation she called me back saying that he had just coded again and they got him back again.

They have him sedated so that he isn't putting any unneccesary stress on his heart and they will be taking him to the other hospital today afterall but I'm not exactly sure as of yet what they will be doing to him once he gets there. The nurse did inform my mom that most people who get the paddles don't come back but he came back twice and that his state was very critical.

Mom and Dan have been married for 10 years. In this time he hasn't been my most favorite person but he is good to my mom and he and Connor have a really strong bond. He is amazing with Connor! He is the only grandfather that my children have that is a part of their lives (long story) and if for no other reason I want him around for a long time for my kids. If you have any good thoughts or prayers to spare, would you please send them out for Dan. Thanks so much!
