I wanted to introduce myself on this board. I loved, loved, loved the pregnant over 35 board, but now that, well, I find myselft with an outside baby, and NO IDEA what we are doing, I thought I should try and make fast friends here!!! LOL
Riley Ann is 9 days old and we are....surviving. 
For the most part all is going well. We just found out that she broke her collar bone during delivery. Actually, I noticed that she wasn't using her arm much and brought it up at our first dr. appointment. Had to go get xrays and yep, break right down the middle. Needless to say, I was (ok, confession am) a mess. I know it is extremely common with big babies, she was 8lbs 11oz at birth and they heal quickly.....yada, yada, yada..... but I do have a question. If anyone has gone through this before, is there anything special I need to worry about when I breasfeed her on that side? Should I just let her arm stay close to her or wrap it around under me like they suggest? Thanks! Looking forward to getting to know everyone on here!

Kim- I can't believe Riley Ann broke her collar bone. I've actually never head of babies breaking their collar bone while in delivery before. Good thing you are so in tune with your baby that you noticed that, I'm not sure if I would pick up on that myself.

Delivered 3 weeks and 2 days early via emergency c/s due to pre-e
I'm another mama to a larger baby (9 lb even) and thankfully no breaks but *I* was pretty messed up (4th degree tears...owie). So I have no idea how to help with a broken collar bone. Though I do confess to breaking my BROTHER'S collarbone when he was a toddler--semi-deliberately... I threw a metal swing at him to knock him over.
So I would do whatever your daughter's pediatrician said to do. ((HUG))

Robynlesley, Owie indeed!!! My dr. opted for the episeotomy but I did find a tear a few days later that was missed. That is a little slower to heal. We haven't heard back from the dr. yet on what to do. Hoping they call today.
OMG I am so sorry for your LO. And for you. That must have been terrifying. I have heard infants with broken bones from delivery.

Wow.. big girlie! I'm sure she'll heal fast.. newborns are pretty bendy and grow so fast.
As for you, mama, relax and let your hubby wait on you hand-and-foot for a while!

Welcome and congrats! Can't help you with the collar bone issue, although my baby was also on the big side... 8 lbs 5 oz, delivered vaginally with episiotomy. At the time I was afraid of looking down there but now it's almost like before baby, I'd say about 90%. I have a friend who had a 4th degree tear too, she was pretty messed up. Her doctor says she's a good candidate for c-section the 2nd time around... hell yeah!
Don't worry about not knowing what you're doing. I was pretty out of it the first month. Once they start sleeping longer and you can rest, then your brain starts working a little better. Hang in there!
