Baths...

The Lush post got me thinking about baths... I L-O-V-E baths, and they used to be one of my favorite indulgences prior to getting pregnant. But... What to Expect has me scared to take one. Is anyone still taking baths? Do you take any precautions with water temp, or do you just go for it?

Re: Baths...

  • I still take my baths! Just don't make the water so hot that you're getting too warm, just like when you're working out.

  • I just go for it.  I don't get the water as hot as I normally would and I don't stay in as long but I need a relaxing bath a few times a week.

  • i do. in fact, when i went through a phase where i was very light headed in the mornings my OB and the midwife recommended i take a bath instead of a shower. they told me there was no way i could get bath water hot enough to harm myself or baby.

    i say go for it!

  • I love my baths.  The way I look at it - I don't drink coffee, soda, wine, eat sushi, deli meat, hot dogs, etc.  This is my one indulgence and I couldn't stand it if someone took it away from me.  I still like my bath pretty warm, but I just make sure I don't get overheated and it's fine.

This is true for me as well.

  • I've been avoiding baths since I got pregnant as well. I didn't take them regularly, but every once in a while the idea of one has sounded really nice. I like them really hot and don't think it's worth it if they're not. But maybe someday soon I'll feel better about taking one.

  • I took one recently and I felt marvelous after. I didn't stay in as long as I could have, but it was completely worth it.

    This exactly. Boo.

  • I love baths too. I read that as long as it isn't turning your skin red and you don't have to warm up to it it's fine. Lately though, not because i'm being cautious about it, I haven't even been able to take warm showers. My a/c isn't the best and it's been getting warm in CA so my baths and showers lately have been about room temp. It feels so nice when it's hot out. I also read (same place as before) that as long as it isn't over 100 degrees.
  • Thanks for the input ladies! With June gloom happening here in SoCal, and without wine to help wind down after the work week, I think I might treat myself to one this weekend :-)

  • I do! I love baths!  I'm so paranoid though, my OB told me "no hotter than 102 degrees"...as if I can guesstimate that.  So I take the temperature of the water with a people thermometer before I get in.

  • Yes, I'm a bit apprehensive though my docs rules say: as long as the hot water doesn't make you sweat or raise your core temperature above 101, then you should be fine. Because if you sweat, your baby could be hot too.

Also, I heard not to use spa's. Same rule applies though. I went in my friends spa but she was nice enough to turn it down to 93 degrees so it was warm, but not overkill. It was very nice and relaxing!

  • I take a hot bath every night. I did it with DS too. I don't think it is a problem. I don't stay in very long.

I love a really, really hot bath.  My RE told me that they are fine as long as the water is around 100 degrees or less.  I also don't soak as long.  RE said the concern with staying a super hot bath too long - or a hot tub - is that as our body temperature rises, the babies does as well.  Limiting time to 15 minutes or so helps keep the baby from getting too hot.

  • i take a (pretty hot) bath almost every night because that's when i notice the growing pains the most...it's just about keeping your body temperature below 104, which is easy because you get very uncomfortable before you even get close. and LUSH products make the baths even better! i love the karma bubble bar and the sakura bath bomb...and all of the awesome massage bars to rub all over my belly when i get out so that i don't get stretch marks :)
