broken toe

So I am pretty sure I broken one of my toes. Should I go to urgent care or just deal with it. Its throbbing so badly and swollen. I have some pain meds from my c/s that I am gonna take after my older boys go to bed. (In a few mins). What would you do?

Re: broken toe

  • there really isnt much the drs can do except confirm you broke your toe. heres some things youcan try for the pain elevate, ibuprophen, you can tape the broken toe to the one next to it, and ice for 20 min. goodluck

  • This probably isnt the norm but, my mom broke her toe quite a few years ago and didn't go to the doctor because she knew there was ntohing they would do. Well turns out the way she had hit her toe ended up causing a hairline fracture in her foot. So because her foot never healed properly she still gets pain in her foot every once in a while when she is on it for too long. But if I were in your shoes I would not go to the ER just maybe have a doctor check it out tomorrow.

  • As a PP said, tape it to the next toe and stay off of it as much as possible. I broke my middle toe last summer and it took a few weeks to feel good but the stability of being taped to a good toe does help with the pain quite a bit. Feel better :(

  • I broke 2 toes when I was about 28 weeks pregnant. I was not going to go see a Dr, but decided to go to urgent care a couple of days later. Turns out, I had broken both toes severely and needed surgery to remove some pretty large bone fragments that were displaced - while I was 7 months pregnant. Some severe fractures require pinning also. So, while MOST toe fractures heal on their own - not all do. If your insurance covers urgent care and an xray I would do it just to be certain.

  • Which toe is it?  If it's the big toe that would prompt me to go to the Dr. too.
