This is my first web post ever (I'm a dinosaur, I know) but I really need some opinions. I'm already 34 weeks & Team Green. Hubbie & I have agreed on our girl name but are very split on the boy. Dad-to-be has a Cuban background, I'm Pakistani/American. We live in Miami. Dad is in LOVE with one name where as I'm much more for the other. The middle name will be a family name.
Mateo (Mah-TAY-oh), although it isn't common here, everyone's heard of it before. It's got Spanish/Italian roots & is a derivative of Matthew.
Kaleo (Kah-LAY-oh) is a Hawaiian name meaning, "The Sound". Nobody's heard of it. I'm not opposed to rare names-- my name is crazy rare and, although not my favorite as a child, I love it now.
I've been thinking about this nearly everyday for 5 months now... I'd love to have it decided already!
I'd really love to know which name you prefer and why (if you don't mind). If you really don't like the name(s), I'd like to hear that too. Other suggestions are welcome. Thanks for your honesty!!

I actually like Kaleo.
It is also a greek word meaning "the call."
There are a few Christian places/camps named Kaleo, meaning answering God's call for your life. There's a Christian ministry at Harvard with this name as well.

Mateo is different enough that your child will probably be the only one in his class with that name.
Kaleo is a bit too out there for me. I just see Kale, a leafy green vegetable. And I think he's going to have more problems having to constantly spell and pronounce his name for people.
I vote Mateo.
Interesting perspective. My baby is half Indian and half Polish, what do I name him without making it seem like I'm trying too hard? Should I just stick to my nationality so his name doesn't come off too "snobish"? And you know, all those people that like Irish names that haven't even been to Ireland or are only 25% Irish, God forbid they name their kid Connor...
Both Hubbie and I are in love with Hawaii. That's where we spent our honeymoon and I've visited several times before. Being perceived as 'trying-too-hard' is actually one of my concerns so I appreciate your opinions
